Message from Mrs Cook

What a lovely, but cold, week it has been! It has been great to see the school alive with learning and to see the enthusiasm and joy on the children’s faces as they proudly begin planning their final written outcomes for the term.

This week began with an assembly on our character skill of Wonder, with a focus on curiosity. The children began by considering ‘What if we lived in a world where no one asked questions?’ This sparked an engaging discussion that spoke not only about lack of knowledge that would be acquired but also a consideration of not understanding how someone would be feeling and being unable to empathise and support those in need. The children explored the meaning of curiosity and delved into why people are naturally curious beings. Together, we came up with various ways we can satisfy our curiosity and discussed where to find information when our inquisitive minds come alive. Our assembly concluded with some rather strange pictures that left us all buzzing with questions! The children embraced their natural curiosity and eagerly shared their thoughts, creating a vibrant atmosphere of inquiry.

Thank you to all those who donated a bottle on our ‘Bring a Bottle’ day this week. Without your kindness and generosity, our winter fair would not be the same. It was lovely to see the children in their own clothes and enjoy being an integral part of our Winter fair.

Also this week we opened our doors for our first parents evening of the year. It is really important for us to connect with you, hear your thoughts, and share valuable insights into your child's progress. These evenings provide a valuable opportunity for meaningful discussions about your child's development, strengths, and areas where we can further support their growth. Your active involvement plays a crucial role in your child's educational journey, and we greatly appreciate your participation and engagement during these sessions.

On Thursday Mr Smith led an assembly on road safety, it is important as a school we reinforce the key messages of road safety and how to stay safe. Road safety is a great subject to engage children with, even our youngest children know something about it, because everyone uses roads, and road danger impacts on everyone. Please reinforce these messages with your children at home, this is particularly even more pertinent for our year 5 and 6 children who walk to and from school alone. In line with this we also ask that those families who drive to school do adhere to the road markings and take our children’s safety into account when parking around the school.

If we were not busy enough – our rehearsals for the Nativity and Carol Concert are well under way and it has been wonderful to hear all the beautiful singing filling up the classrooms, as the children from Nursery up to Year six prepare for the Christmas festivities. The children have been very busy practising the words to their songs and learning their lines for the Christmas performances. Year 4 are so excited they want to practise their song all of the time! We hope that many of you will be able to join us for these celebrations in the coming weeks.

We are all looking forward to our Christmas Lunch and Christmas Hat competitions next week. It is always a really enjoyable event for the children and lovely to watch the buzz of excitement, as the festive celebrations begin. The fun doesn’t stop there, as the end of the school day will be followed with our Winter Fair! A huge thank you to the Friends of Rockliffe group for all your support so far, if you would like to lend a hand please speak to the Friends of Rockliffe group directly or register your interest at the school office. All help is gratefully received and warmly welcomed!

We very much look forward to seeing everyone back to school on Monday and hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team

Special Notice

Dear Families,

RE: Parking Safety Concerns at School Drop-off and Pick-up Times

At Rockliffe Manor, we strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children and families, we must address a growing concern that impacts the well-being of our entire school community.

Recently, we have been made aware that there have been noticeable challenges related to parking in the roads surrounding the school during drop-off and pick-up times. The safety and wellbeing of our children, parents, and local community is of paramount importance, and we believe it is crucial to bring this matter to your attention.

Excessive congestion and haphazard parking practices in the vicinity of the school create potential hazards for everyone involved. It not only poses a risk to the safety of our families as they navigate the area on foot but also contributes to traffic congestion and frustration among parents, carers and local residents.

To ensure the well-being of all, we kindly request your cooperation in the following matters:

1.Use Designated Parking Areas: Utilise designated parking spaces. These spaces are strategically designed to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic and ensure the safety of everyone involved.

2. Be Mindful of Others: Exercise patience and consideration for others. Avoid blocking driveways, crosswalks, or double-parking, as these actions can impede the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles.

3. Observe Speed Limits: Maintain a safe and appropriate speed when driving near the school. Reduced speed ensures a safer environment, especially during busy drop-off and pick-up times.

4.Consider Alternative Transportation: If possible, consider alternative transportation options such as carpooling, walking, or biking. This not only reduces traffic congestion but also contributes positively to the environment.

By working together and following these guidelines, we can create a safer and more efficient drop-off and pick-up experience for everyone. It is essential that we foster a culture of courtesy and awareness, keeping in mind that our actions directly impact the safety and well-being of our children and the broader school community.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school office. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that our school remains a safe and welcoming place for all. Thank you for your continued commitment to the safety of our children.
