Collaboration matters   Excellence in everything   Community first   Equity for everyone   Continuous growth

Message from Mrs Cook

It’s been another very busy week for us here at Rockliffe Manor, and the sun is shining - which is a welcomed change!

On Monday we began with an assembly on the value of responsibility, throughout the assembly we explored our duty to ensure our school environment is cared for. We considered how through responsibility for our school we must also show;

It was fantastic to see the children really taking these messages on board and seeing how helpful they have been in response to these messages. Well done Rockliffe Manor!

This week, our Year 2 and Year 3 children had an amazing opportunity to work with sports leaders from Plumstead Manor. These talented leaders meticulously planned and delivered a series of engaging activities aimed at developing the fundamental skills required to play rounders and cricket. We were thrilled to see the values our children exhibited throughout the session, including teamwork, respect, and perseverance. We are pleased also  that next week, Year 4 and Year 5 will have the chance to engage in a session with Plumstead Manor's sports leaders, and we eagerly anticipate seeing the positive impact this collaboration will have on our older students.

A huge thank you to all the parents who attended our Arithmetic open morning this week. It was a pleasure to see our children light up with excitement as they welcomed their families into their classrooms. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience of practising mathematical concepts and applying their skills to various engaging activities. We truly appreciate your support. As we continue to organise future "stay and learn" sessions, we value your input and suggestions. If you have any ideas regarding the focus of our next session, we would love to hear them. Your feedback is invaluable in ensuring that we provide meaningful and enriching experiences for both our students and their families. We will share the information for the sessions planned for Summer 2 with you shortly, so please stay tuned.

Our Year 4 learners had an amazing trip to the Tower of London this week. The focus of the trip was a workshop based on the life of Henry VIII, and it provided a fantastic opportunity for our children to delve into history and discover new facts. During the workshop, the children engaged in a range of activities, including some fun role play as Henry VIII and each of his wives. They had the chance to step into the shoes of historical figures and gain a deeper understanding of this significant period in history. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day. These hands-on experiences play a vital role in bringing history to life and enhancing our curriculum.

And today, we ended the week with a fantastic sharing assembly from Year 3, the children spoke us through their learning for the half term and were so articulate and confident in their delivery. The children acted scenes from their core texts including ‘the accidental prime minister’ and ‘the hidden figures’ drawing on the key themes of the text. The children also shared what they would do if they were headteacher for the day - which brought up some very interesting thoughts - such as bring your pet to school day and allowing sleeping at lunch time! This was all enhanced with their beautiful singing, which was a real highlight. A huge well done to our year 3 children and wonderful teachers!

So many amazing things happened this week, and so much more to come next week - I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you back on Wednesday

With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team

Learning this week

Let’s look at the learning from this week …

Nursery parents have been very impressed with the progression and knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes. Ayden’s mum said that ‘he came home and could recall all of the names of the 3D shapes and that 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are solid’

Reception have been authors this week and have been altering parts of their core text. They have also been using lots of oracy skills when rehearsing for their sharing assembly. Ezri has been so excited about showing her mum all of the learning that they have been doing. Lily shared that she has also been practising at home with her mum singing their song- ‘You’ve got a friend in me’

Year 1 have been learning about Islam and the children have learnt many key facts. The children did a quiz to test their knowledge and they asked many questions.

Year 2 had their library trip this week where the children loved choosing books of their choice to read. Also, Year 2 children have resumed their Sats assessments this week and they have shown a growth mindset and great resilience.

Year 3 have been planning their manifesto’s this week - creating their own playground political party. Children have worked collaboratively to make pledges - firstly developing their ideas to improve the playground. Some great ideas - a juice fountain, fizzy Fridays and Ubereats delivering lunch to the gate! They will be presenting their ideas to others in order to see who would be a winner!

Year 4 have been on a school trip all the way to Tower of London! They learnt lots of great facts about Henry VIII, and did some acting in the role of the Tudor king. They asked curious questions about the places where the wives were beheaded/died!

In year 5 they have been working really hard in their maths learning on angles and effectively measuring using protractors. This was the first time they have used this equipment and their confidence is growing in every lesson. Olivia was extremely proud when she was able to correctly identify which scale to use within the protractor and has become very confident in using the correct terminology when explaining step by step instructions on how to use one.

In year 6 this week they have been enjoying getting back into areas of the curriculum, alongside their SPAG, reading and maths! They had a brilliant science lesson on electricity with Mr White. And they have finally started their DT work on creating an Islamic inspired patterns.
