Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful and joyful break with your loved ones. It was wonderful to welcome all of our children back to school at the beginning of this term, despite the freezing conditions! Let’s hope we end our Spring term on brighter and warmer days! It has been a pleasure to see the children return so settled and engaged in their new learning over this first month back.
At Foxfield, we place immense value on regular and consistent attendance because we want every child to thrive. When children are here every day, they build strong friendships, grow in confidence and maintain the "learning momentum" that helps them succeed academically. To support this, we closely follow up on absences simply because we care about your child's journey and want to ensure no one misses out on the magic of the classroom. In order to celebrate our pupils' commitment to being in school, you will have received a letter about our upcoming new initiative. At the end of the Spring term we will be awarding our first attendance Hamper and giftcard! For both the Spring and Summer terms, every child who achieves an attendance rate of 96% or higher for the full term will automatically receive an entry into a prize draw. We look forward to celebrating the fantastic efforts of our children this year!
This half term, we continue our focus on reading and at Foxfield we are emphasising reading fluency across the school. Teachers are incorporating various techniques into their reading lessons to help children become fluent readers who can read aloud effortlessly and with expression. Developing fluency requires regular practice, so we ask that every child reads at home for at least 15 minutes each day with an adult or older sibling. To foster a love of reading, children will bring home a book suited to their reading level and another book chosen purely for enjoyment. If you have any questions about your child’s reading materials, please speak with their class teacher.
As we begin the new term, we have also reviewed our home learning offer to ensure it is meaningful, manageable and supports a healthy balance between school and home life. Reading is the single most important activity a child can do at home and we encourage all parents and carers to ensure children are reading for pleasure every day. In addition, we ask for your support in practicing essential skills that are fundamental to their learning, including arithmetic, multiplication tables and phonics. Please do take a look at the recent letter that was sent home for further information or check out your child’s year group newsletter.
Iftar information
From approximately 17th February to 18th March, Muslims around the world will be observing the holy month of Ramadan. This is a significant time of reflection, prayer, and fasting from dawn until sunset. Our Year 5 children will be hosting their annual Iftar Potluck on Friday 27th February 2026. This event is a key part of their Global Learning on Peace and Conflict, where they are exploring how shared traditions and mutual understanding can strengthen communities. Ramadan is rooted in the values of togetherness, charity, and empathy. We would love for all our families to join us in this spirit of community.
