Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the Autumn 2 term! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful break and is ready for another exciting half term. As we move forward, we have high expectations for both learning and behaviour and we know our pupils are up to the challenge. This term is packed with fun events, including our continued exploration of the church calendar, festive celebrations and community activities that will bring us all together. Let’s work hard, support each other and make the most of every opportunity. We look forward to seeing all the wonderful achievements our students will accomplish this term!
Best wishes
The Delce Team
At Delce We Do Belong!
Our Core Value this term: Collaboration
What is collaboration?
Collaboration means working together to achieve a goal. It’s when we share ideas, listen to each other and help one another to get things done. By working as a team, we can solve problems more easily and come up with creative solutions. Collaboration teaches us to respect each other's strengths and support one another, making our community stronger and more connected!
This skill will help children in school and in all areas of life, as it teaches respect, teamwork and good communication. We encourage parents to talk with their children at home about how they can show collaboration at school, with friends and in the community. Thank you for supporting this important learning!
All classes at Delce Academy
On behalf of all the teachers, support staff and adults we want to say well done for coming back with such enthusiasm this half term.
It is heart warming to see so many children immersed into their learning!
Well done everyone!
This week Year 3 have explored their core text and its theme. The children loved being immersed in one of the books main events ‘We are learning about climate change!’
This week, Year 4 have been researching how the human digestive system works. We learnt how food is digested, how each part has a different job to do and how it provides the body with energy. Using household items, we recreated the digestion process with an interesting (and messy) experiment!
This week in year 5, we have explored the core text 'Zane and the hurricane' We made predictions based on the title and the image on the front cover. Furthermore, in maths we have been focusing on identifying squared and cubed numbers. We used multilink blocks to support with our learning.
We have had a fantastic visitor over a virtual meeting. The children were able to have a discussion with the author of Max and the Millions, Ross Montgomery. The children gained an insight into what it is like to be a children's author and how he created the text we all enjoyed.
The DEC have enjoyed taking part in sensory play with Orbeez and working together after the break. They have enjoyed using lots of vocabulary together while discussing their experiences over the half term.
Kent Cricket Sessions
This week Delce Academy was visited by coach Charlie who is from Kent Cricket. Coach Charlie delivered some really fun cricket sessions to all three year 4 classes. The sessions will be delivered over the next five weeks. All the children had a great time and are looking forward to the next session.

School site and safety
You can legally park opposite yellow zigzags. However, this can make crossing the road more dangerous, especially for children. Some schools have yellow zigzags on both sides of the road for this reason.
When picking up or dropping off children at schools, you should do the following:
Allow yourself plenty of time as the area is likely to be busy.
Do not park on yellow zigzag lines and avoid parking opposite them.
If you decide to park further away, please be considerate of local residents and avoid blocking driveways or access ways.
For further information on parking and road safety please visit Kent Police Road Safety

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
