Respect Collaboration Kindness Perseverance Honesty Responsibility
Dear Delce Families
What a fantastic few weeks we’ve had at Delce Academy! The children were fully immersed in the excitement of World Book Day last week which included a weeks' worth of exciting activities, with engaging workshops on Monday and Tuesday, a fantastic dressing-up day filled with creativity, and the thrill of taking part in a nationwide live quiz on Thursday. We were also amazed by the wonderful ‘Story in a Jar’ entries—thank you for all the effort and imagination that went into them!
Alongside all this, our pupils have completed their assessments, demonstrating incredible perseverance—our school value for this term. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication from the children.
This week, our girls’ football team and children in the DEC had the exciting opportunity to visit the Royal Engineers Museum. This trip not only helped consolidate their learning but also encouraged teamwork and collaboration, which are key skills both in and outside the classroom. Well done to all involved!
Finally, a polite reminder that children are not permitted to bring any items that are not part of the school uniform policy into school. We appreciate your support in ensuring all pupils adhere to our guidelines.
Our Core Value this term:
This term, our school value is perseverance, a quality we believe is essential for success both in and out of the classroom. Perseverance is about staying committed to a task, even when it gets difficult, and learning from setbacks. To help your children develop this valuable trait at home, try engaging in activities that require sustained effort. Building a complex LEGO structure, completing a challenging puzzle, learning a new skill like juggling or a musical instrument, or even tackling a tricky recipe together can all provide opportunities to practice perseverance. Encourage them to break down larger tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, and celebrate their efforts, not just the final result. Remember, it's the journey of learning and overcoming challenges that truly builds perseverance.
Over the last week we have been celebrating World Book Day! It was lovely to see all the children enthused by the West End in schools dance workshop at the beginning of last week. Children across the school were all invited to learn a dance to tell the story of Alice in Wonderland. Thursday saw all the children dress up in costumes inspired by book characters or their pj's. It was lovely seeing the fantastic efforts and enthusiasm the children had when it came to World Book Day itself. Congratulations to the Story in a Jar winner too; Adhyan (Year 3), Liyana (Year 4), Beliad (Year 5), Giulia (Year 6) and Rebecca (DEC), I hope you enjoy your book vouchers!
We also have a fantastic new community library located outside the school office. These books are for parents, carers and pupils to use and to donate to.
Thursday 13th March - Tuesday 18th March - 3.30pm - 4pm (2.30pm start on Monday) we have the Book fair in the school hall. Thank you to all of those who have come along so far!
This week we have tasted fruits from thinking about the appearance of food along with taste. We have then explored instructions and followed a instructions to create sandwiches and considered why it is important to have clear instructions. after looking at where food comes from we have used instructions to create Brigadeiro chocolates (Brazilian puddings).
Year 4 have been learning about coding on purple mash. We have explored changing backgrounds, choosing objects, and planning algorithms for their scene.
Year 5 have been developing their knowledge of coding and instructions. This week they have been using Pico the robot, they were able to successfully give it commands to say words, change it's expression and carry out movements.
Year 6 have worked tirelessly this week. They have yet again, blown everybody away with their determination, perseverance and resilliance. Each and every child has shown their capabilities of what they can achieve. They have done exceptionally well with assessments this week. Well done to all children! Keep up the hard work!
The DEC have enjoyed a trip to the Royal Engineers musum, we enjoyed dressing up in past and present army uniforms as well as uniforms from different countries. We explored different shelters, buildings and transport used during the wars. We finished our trip with a walk to the war memorial on the Great Lines and we enjoyed spotting different landmarks in Chatham and Rochester from the view.

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
For more details visit our website.
