Dear Parents and Carers
We are excited to announce the launch of our Junior Leadership team this week at Delce! Our students are eager to develop and showcase their leadership skills. Each subject leader is looking for a junior leader to support them, and application forms are now available in every classroom. We encourage you to motivate your child to apply!
In addition, some students participated in extra tennis sessions organized by Mr. Minlah in partnership with Jimmy's Tennis Company, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Our after-school clubs are also a hit, providing enriching experiences for all.
This half term, we are focusing on the value of respect and encourage all students to embody and demonstrate it consistently. We look forward to another week filled with learning and fun!
Miss Stevens
At Delce We Do Belong!
Our Core Value this term: RESPECT
To promote our core value of RESPECT, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.
This week’s recommendation is: What if everybody did that?
If you drop just one can out the window, it's no big deal...right? But what if everybody did that? What if everybody broke the rules...and spoke during story time, didn't wash up, or splashed too much at the pool? Then the world would be a mess. But what if everybody obeyed the rules so that the world would become a better place? Using humorous illustrations, these questions are answered in a child-friendly way and show the consequences of disrespectful behaviour.

Get ready to embark on a journey through the learning achievements and activities of the week. From captivating classroom discoveries to inspiring moments of creativity, there's so much to admire and enjoy.
Let's dive in together and revel in the joy of learning!
This week, Bell class have used books about plastic pollution, to help them plan their non chronological report. They have constructed headlines and bullet pointed facts they want to include.
Wright class have been hard at work writing non-chronological reports about plastic, inspired by their core text "What a Waste." Through their research and writing, they have explored the impact of plastic on the environment, drawing connections to important themes of sustainability and waste reduction. This activity has not only enhanced their report-writing skills but also deepened their awareness of environmental issues.
Dyson class have worked hard this week to write their own narratives based on the story of Azzi in Between. They have included expanded noun phrases and speech.
This week in Maths, Sharman class have been learning Roman Numerals. We converted numbers into Roman Numerals and used this knowledge to solve number problems.
In Earhart class this week we have been busy writing our narrative based on a child refugee fleeing to another country, using our core text Azzi in Between.
This week in Rhodes class we have been deepening our understanding of natural disasters. The children researched a variety of different natural diasters ready to create a factfile on their most interesting natural disaster.
In art this week, we explored prints and drawings by Sarah Young. The children identified common themes and were able to have a go a drawing in her style. We discussed in detail the messages she showcased through her prints.
In the wonderful Goulding class this week, we have been writing an alternate ending to our core text 'Running Wild'. We used our knowledge from geography and incorperated a natural disaster as the problem in our story. Well done you super stars! ⭐🎉
In Science this week we have continued to investigate light and how light travels. We investigated how mirrors reflect light and explored how mirrors are used to help us see such as rear view mirrors in a car and periscopes. We then strengthened our understanding by identifying the angle of incidence and the angle of refraction.
This week Brunel have been working hard on developing a detailed plan for a balanced argument based on our core text by Ross Montgomery, 'Max and the Millions'. We have been looking at using the correct language to ensure our writing is cohesive and ensuring our argument is, of course, balanced.
This week in Curie, we have been working hard with our reading to understand our whole class reading book 'Cogheart'. We have been working on adding detail to our answers.
Adams have been working collaboratively in maths this week and enjoyed making pizza wraps in life skills. Jackson is enjoying learning about the stone age and wants to research things that interest them. Well done DEC a great week.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
DELCE SAYS NO TO BULLYING!
At Delce, we stand united against bullying in all its forms. Bullying hurts and harms, and it has no place in our school community. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, respected, and supported.
Together, we will foster a culture of kindness, empathy, and inclusivity, where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.
STOP red boxes allow the children to place their worries and concerns in them. They are located across the school and checked daily by Mr. Minlah and Mr. Bower, and any concerns posted are responded to promptly by our dedicated pastoral team.

Events at Delce
Let's get ready to showcase our Halloween hats and cauldron worthy magical spoons!
A harvest festival is an annual celebration that occurs around the time of the main harvest of a given region. Given the differences in climate and crops around the world, harvest festivals can be found at various times at different places. Harvest festivals typically feature feasting on foods that are drawn from crops.

Hey Delce family, we’ve got some exciting news to share with you!
Parentkind – a charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative. To support our PTA, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, choose our school, shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com.
Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024 – every time you shop with Asda using your Asda Rewards app, Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to your chosen Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts-in to support our Primary school, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.
The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage!
It’s as easy as 1,2,3
1. Download the Asda Rewards app, register and opt-in to Cashpot for Schools
2. Choose our Primary School – either searching by name or postcode (ME20 7JU)
3. Shop instore across Asda and George, or online at Asda.com and start filling your Cashpot as you shop
Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most. Our aim is to use the donations to provide additional enrichment opportunities and experiences for all children within the school.
Remember, anyone can sign up – so start spreading the news and raising funds for our school. Speak to Grandparents, friends, family anyone you see.
This initiative is on top of the existing Asda Rewards benefits you get as a shopper – so you won’t lose out on any of your own earnings or Cashpot, so everyone is a winner!

Pick-up and drop-off times are busy outside schools. This can cause an increased safety risk to both children and parents.
You can legally park opposite yellow zigzags. However, this can make crossing the road more dangerous, especially for children. Some schools have yellow zigzags on both sides of the road for this reason.
When picking up or dropping off children at schools, you should do the following:
Allow yourself plenty of time as the area is likely to be busy.
Do not park on yellow zigzag lines and avoid parking opposite them.
If you decide to park further away, please be considerate of local residents and avoid blocking driveways or access ways.
For further information on parking and road safety please visit Kent Police Road Safety

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
For more details visit our website.
