Dear Parents and Carers,
A warm welcome back to all our parents and pupils. The start of this term has been tremendous - especially with the workshop delivered by the amazing 'Rocksteady' group, on Wednesday. The pupils and staff enjoyed the harmonious music that was demonstrated by the 'one-man band'.
We're also very excited for our World Book Day happening on Thursday the 5th of March - don't forget your PJ's! We look forward to welcoming parents to our 'Stay and Read' (where you can explore range of books with your child) in the afternoon of the 5th of March 2.40pm - 3pm, then we have the Chartwell school dinner taster session for Parents / Carers held in the school hall at 3pm.
Thank you for your continuous support with our school community.
Kind regards,
Miss North

Our Core Value this term: Perseverance
Have you ever tried to learn a new trick on your bike, or struggled to solve a tricky math problem and felt like giving up? That feeling is totally normal! But there is a special "superpower" that helps you get through those tough moments. It’s called perseverance.
You don't need a cape to be a hero of perseverance. You can practice it every day in many different settings.
The "Power of Yet": Instead of saying "I can't do this," try saying "I can't do this YET." It reminds you that your brain is still growing!
Ask for Help: Perseverance doesn't mean doing everything alone. It means being brave enough to ask a teacher or a friend for a hint so you can keep moving forward.
Take a Breather: If you get frustrated, take three deep breaths. Calming your body helps your brain get back into "problem-solving mode."
In Year 3, at the end of last term. We learnt about the mechanics of a moving river scene and then working in pairs we assembled ours from being inspired about the Amazon River and their inhabitants in Geography.
In English, we have immersed ourselves in our new core text, Journey to the River Sea. We thought about what we would need if we suddenly found ourselves in the Rainforest, using our knowledege of biomes to help. We then used our inference skills to infer how a character may be feeling.
This week in English, Year 5 had so much fun becoming detectives at "Home Farm"! The children searched the farm for clues, asked great questions, and took careful notes about what they discovered. This was an exciting introduction to our new core text, 'Who let the Gods out.'
We have a new core text in English this term, Climate Rebels. This text explores people who are passionate about saving our planet in different ways. Our first lesson was to explore the importance of symbolism as many charities and climate campaign groups have symbols which represent them. We learneed about the symbol of the turtle and how it represents longevity, wisdom, Mother Earth. The children designed their own turtle and then made their designs out of clay. Once they are painted they wwill be bringing them home for you to enjoy!
DEC and selected JLT were excited to visit Rochester Catherdral to experience the sperm whale experdition. We have been learning about the effects of polluction on the environment and how it affects whales. The art installation of the whales is made from waste found in the ocean, such as plastics, nets, rubber and fabrics.
We were so excited to welcome Rocksteady Music School to our assembly today. The musician performed live and showed us all how awesome it is to be part of a band.
It’s not just about the music, though—playing an instrument is a fantastic way to practice perseverance! Whether it’s mastering a drum beat or hitting the right note on the keyboard, it takes "the power of yet" to become a rockstar.
We’ve sent home some important information with the children on Wednesday. Be sure to check their bags for details on how your child can get involved and start their own musical journey. Click here for information.
Whether you have a spare hour to help set up an event, a fresh new idea to share, or simply want to volunteer your time, your support makes a massive impact. It’s a fantastic way to meet other parents, get involved in school life and help support projects that benefit every child.
Every little bit of help counts! Please contact the office if you are able to support with this half term’s events.
Every week, children are expected to engage in four core areas of study:
Arithmetic Skills: Children will be given math questions specifically linked to the topics they have been studying in class that week to help solidify their numerical fluency.
Weekly Spellings: Lists will be sent home each week. Children should practice these regularly in preparation for a spelling test the following week.
Daily Reading: We ask that children read at home for at least 15 minutes every day. This can be independent or with an adult. Please remember to sign the reading record book..
Termly Curriculum Grid: Each term, children receive a "Choice Grid" featuring various activities linked to their wider curriculum subjects (History, Science & Art etc). Children should select one task to complete each week.
SEND: A message SENCO Mr Palmer
Mr. Palmer's Strategy of the Week!
As we come to test week, do you find children find this challenging and often have more challenging moments at home during this week?
Sensory Regulation: Expect more "meltdowns" or "shutdowns" after school. Provide heavy blankets, quiet time, or physical play—whatever helps them regulate.
The "Big Picture" Talk: Remind them that the test doesn't measure their kindness, their creativity, or their specialised interests—the things that actually make them awesome.
Wishing the following children a Happy Birthday for those who have their birthday over the next two weeks!
