Respect Collaboration Kindness Perseverance Honesty Responsibility
Dear Delce Family,
Last Friday's 'Reading with Your Child' event was a great success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of so many parents and carers. It was wonderful to see the joy on children's faces as they shared their favourite stories with you. We believe that fostering a love of reading is crucial for a child's academic and personal development and we are grateful for your support in making this event a memorable one.
Our boys' football team represented Delce Academy at the Utilita Kids Cup, competing against 17 other primary schools. Their sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication were truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud of their achievements on and off the field.
In addition to these exciting events, we welcomed our local PSCO to deliver a whole-school assembly focused on the importance of keeping safe online. This timely and informative session highlighted the potential dangers of the digital world and provided valuable tips for staying safe online. We encourage you to discuss online safety with your children at home and to reinforce the messages shared during the assembly. By working together, we can create a safer online environment for our children.
Kind regards,
Mr Harris and the Delce Team
Our Core Value this term: Kindness
This term, we will be focusing on the important value of kindness.
Kindness is about being thoughtful and caring towards others. It's about:
Helping others: Lending a hand, offering support, and being there for our friends.
Using kind words: Saying "please" and "thank you," offering compliments, and encouraging others.
Showing empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of others, and being compassionate.
Being inclusive: Welcoming everyone and making sure everyone feels included and valued.
We will be exploring kindness through:
Class discussions and activities: We'll talk about what kindness means, share stories, and share ways to show kindness.
Kindness challenges: We'll have fun challenges throughout the term to encourage acts of kindness, such as "Random Acts of Kindness".
Circle time: We'll use circle time to share our feelings, practice active listening, and build a strong and supportive classroom community.
We encourage you to discuss kindness with your child at home. Talk about how you show kindness to others in your daily lives. Let's work together to create a kind and compassionate school environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Year 3 have been combining art and literature by designing beautiful birds inspired by their core text Everyday Child a Song by Nicola Davies and the stunning illustrations of Marc Martin. They have been exploring and practicing shading techniques to bring their bird designs to life, adding depth and texture to their artwork.
Year 4 have worked hard at writing their biographies on Matthew Henson this week. We have included the past simple, past progressive and the pass perfect tense as well as fronted adverbials to recall last term's learning. In Geography, we started to learn the 8 compass points to help us give directions to each other. We also used this knowledge to describe the location of countries in relation to other countries on a world map.
Year 5 have been diving into the world of 'crumbles' in computing. They carefully followed instructions to build the device and programmed it to perform a series of actions. We also discussed how these programmes connect to the wider world, often supporting our daily lives without us even realising it. The children thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with and adjusting different variations. Brilliant effort, everyone – well done!
Year 6 have been learning about the Ancient Kingdom of Benin. They have enjoyed learning about some of the artefacts from Benin and their significance. They chose which artefacts they would include in a museum and wrote some information about them.
DEC have enjoyed a trip to the new Cozenton Park Sports Centre in Rainham, to use skills we have learnt in our swimming lessons. The children loved that staff joined in. Medway Plus provided the transport to support children with SEND

SEND
A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...
Mr. Palmer Strategy of the Week!
Does your child not always link their actions to consequences?
Try creating comic strips of incidents. Start with the consequence and work backwards adding any points where something happened. You can then add any times the child could have made a different decision to get a different result.
This particularly helps with memory and processing difficulties.
Have a question or a concern about SEND? Book to get a 15 minute slot with Mr Palmer to discuss any concerns and strategies that may help! Just scan the QR code on the poster.
Join us for our first SEND Coffee morning. 6th February 9:30-10:30 in the main school hall. Fortis Trust will join us to discuss ADHD, ASC, strategies, sleep, eating and all sorts of helpful tips. Just pop along for a cuppa and a catch up!
On Friday 31st January, we will be holding a Year 4 Multiplication times tables open morning for parents.
This session will start at 8:50am to 9:30am in the hall and will consist of two parts: an information session about the check itself and a practical session using the website with your child
Delce Academy are proud to announce that we will be taking part in 'NSPCC Number Day.' This will take place on Friday 7th February, children are asked to wear something with a number on it. If they do not have anything with a number they can still wear their own clothes and when at school, the can design and add a number to their outfit.
In order to support this incredible cause, the children will be bringing home a paper with an amount on it that they have selected themselves. We have asked children to collect coins to make the amount on their sheet in order to raise money for the NSPCC.
Once completed, they can bring it back to school to hand it to their class teacher or the office. They can bring the money in before number day or on number day. The children can decorate their sheet as they wish and use it for Number Day as well.
In today's digital age, technology plays a significant role in children's lives. While educational apps and online resources offer valuable learning opportunities, it's crucial to be mindful of the content children access. We encourage parents to regularly review the apps installed on their children's devices. Together, let's ensure a safe and positive digital experience for all our learners. If you have any concerns about online safety, please don't hesitate to contact the school for guidance and support.
Wishing these children a Happy Birthday for the next two weeks!

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
