Attendance
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a fantastic two weeks at Delce Academy, capped off by the brilliant energy of our STEM Workshop. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged in building a tower—their curiosity and teamwork were a real credit to the school.
I would like to say a sincere thank you to all our parents and carers. Your continued support, whether helping with home learning or ensuring your children are ready for these busy school days, is what allows our pupils to thrive. We truly value the partnership we have with you.
I hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Warmest wishes,
Miss North

Our Core Value this term: Kindness
Kindness isn't just a subject we teach; it’s the way we live. From holding the door for a classmate to offering an encouraging word during a tough test, our children are proving that small acts make a massive difference. We are so proud of the culture of empathy we are building together every single day.
Year 3 have been working hard to create a newspaper report to retell the events within our Core Text 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. We have written in third person, included reported and direct speak and have used past tense within our writing. Well doe.
Year 4 have been working very hard all week writing their biography on Matthew Henson the African American Arctic explorer who was the first person to reach the North Pole. We have also been learning about compass points in Geography and have to give and follow compass directions to get to the final destination.
Year 5 have learnt about air resistance and water resistance this week. We tested out two different sized parachutes to investigate how surface area and amount of air resistance effects the speed of a parachute. We also explored water resistance by changing the shape of playdough and observing how this impacts how long the object takes to get to the bottom of a tub of water. We concluded that streamlined objects are better for speed. In Art, we have enjoyed explored tints and shades.
Year 6 have been exploring Carl Linnaeus, the Linnaeus system and scientific classification. We have learnt how this system is still used today by scientists when they discover new spieces of animals, plants or bacteria. We were given pictures of a range of living things and investigated all the different ways we could classify them by having in class competion! Our teachers were really proud of some of the imaginative ways we classisfied living things. We then created a fact file about Carl Linnaeus and developed knowledge of Latin words to use his system to classify an animal we had chosen. Finally, we created our own classification key and challenged our friends to successfully complete them using the scientific knowledge they had developed.
Dec took part in a STEM workshop and worked in mixed groups we explored what engineering is. Famous engineers, including Eiffel. How towers have grown as the population has grown. The importance of strong foundations to make sturdy towers. The use of triangles in engineering. Practical demonstration with cup towers. How pulleys work and how they contributed to tower building. We completed an Engineering challenge: To build a tall tower with given materials, following specifications and including a pulley.
Every week, children are expected to engage in four core areas of study:
Arithmetic Skills: Children will be given math questions specifically linked to the topics they have been studying in class that week to help solidify their numerical fluency.
Weekly Spellings: Lists will be sent home each week. Children should practice these regularly in preparation for a spelling test the following week.
Daily Reading: We ask that children read at home for at least 15 minutes every day. This can be independent or with an adult. Please remember to sign the reading record book..
Termly Curriculum Grid: Each term, children receive a "Choice Grid" featuring various activities linked to their wider curriculum subjects (History, Science & Art etc). Children should select one task to complete each week.
We are so excited to welcome GB Badminton Player Heather Olver to our school on Thursday 5th February 2026! To make the most of this incredible day, we are inviting all children to start their sponsorship journey to help us raise money for new sports equipment.
It only takes a few minutes to set up your child’s sponsorship page:
Scan to Sign Up: Use the QR code on the school posters to go directly to our school's event page.
Search for Our School: Alternatively, you can search for our school name on the sponsorship website.
Share the Link: Once signed up, share your child’s page with family and friends to help us reach our goal!
Your support / sponsership helps towards improving our school's sports facilities. On the day, your child will:
Get Active: The children will participate in a fun-filled fitness circuit with a professional athlete.
Be Inspired: They will learn about the strength, talent and resilience required to compete at the highest level.
Let’s come together to make this a day to remember! We thank you for your continues support!
Last week we held a STEM workshop, with the focus on Engineering. We were joined by Inventors and Makers who explored what engineering is, introduced us to famous engineers including Eiffel. Made us think about the link between how towers have grown as the population has grown along with the importance of strong foundations to make sturdy towers.
We were then given the engineering challenge: build a tall tower following specifications with a set of given materials, and problem solve to make it strong and sturdy.

A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...
Mr. Palmer's Strategy of the Week!
Does your child come in after school with lots of energy and needing to calm?
Give them a crunchy snack such as carrots or an apple. The 'crunch' helps to ground them and is very calming.

SAFER INTERNET Day-Tuesday 9th February 2026
Everyone’s talking about AI and with many children and young people hearing about and using AI online, it’s important they have the skills and confidence to make safe choices when they are using smart technology.
This Safer Internet Day we are exploring the impact of AI on all of our lives, looking at how AI can be used for good and giving advice and guidance that empowers people to use AI safely and responsibly.
Consider how using AI can impact you and other people
Like a lot of other technology, AI can save us time and energy. You could use it to find the answer to a question, to check your spelling, or to create images or videos. Whilst AI can be a great tool, it’s important that we think about when and how we are using AI. Don’t use it in place of our own thinking and creativity, or to do things that may upset or worry other people.
Understand where AI technology is being used and the impact it can have
From summaries on search engines, to voice assistants and photo editing tools, AI powered features are being added to many of the apps and devices we use day-to-day.
Look out for information and warnings notifying you where AI technology is in use or where content has been created using AI. Help your child to recognise these too. Remember, AI can make some tasks simpler but may also collect data about you and your family, or share unreliable information, so consider how to use it safely and responsibly.
Thank you for supporting safer internet use!
