Respect Collaboration Kindness Perseverance Honesty Responsibility
What a busy and enriching time it's been at school! The parent reading session was a success, the children were extremely excited to share how they learn reading at Delce. We would like to thank all parents who attended and the feedback was overwhelming. Here are a few things parents had to say about their experience.
"The reading is so interesting, I loved how well they behaved, it was so calm."
"The teacher was very interesting in the way they taught echo reading, I could have stayed there all day to learn."
"I was surprised to see how well my child participated and knew so much about the language and vocabulary!"
Our Year 4 children thoroughly enjoyed stepping back in time during their recent Roman workshop, bringing their curriculum to life in an engaging and hands-on way.
We would also like to say a big thank you for your incredible generosity on Jeans for Beans day! Your donations of dried goods and cans will make a real difference to families in need within our school community, and we are so grateful for your ongoing support.
This week, we bid a fond farewell to our wonderful Deputy Headteacher, Mr. Phillips, as he embarks on his next adventure. Mr. Phillips has been a huge part of our school community, building strong relationships with so many of you. His outstanding passion for teaching and learning, and his remarkable ability to bring communities together, have truly enriched our school. We will deeply miss his warmth and humility. We wish him the very best in his next chapter!
We hope you all have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing the children back on Monday 2nd June.
Our Core Value this term: Honesty
At Delce Academy, honesty means telling the truth, owning up to our actions and being trustworthy in all we do. It's about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
This half term, we are focusing on honesty as one of our core values. We hope to see all our children embrace honesty by speaking truthfully, admitting mistakes and showing integrity in their choices. By being honest, we build stronger friendships and create a safe and respectful school environment. Let’s celebrate honesty together and encourage one another to live by it every day!
Junior Leadership Team
Our Eco-Warriors noticed lots of plastic wrappers left after break time! Let’s all do our part—pick up your rubbish and help keep our school clean and green. Don’t litter, be a planet protector!
Our Excellence Monitors have been busy checking the tidiness of our school. They’ve noticed books left on the floor, messy cloak areas and untidy corridors. Let’s show our Delce values by keeping our school clean and ready for learning!
Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors in their blue jackets are doing a fantastic job helping children on the playground. They’re always ready to listen and support others. Kindness matters!
Year 3 pupils have been working hard this term on writing their own manifestos, inspired by our core text The Accidental Prime Minister. Imagining what they would do if they were in charge of the school, the children have come up with thoughtful, creative, and often very persuasive ideas – from improving school lunches to adding more playtime! It’s been a fantastic way to develop their persuasive writing skills while also encouraging them to think about leadership, fairness, and responsibility.
Year 4 have enjoyed exploring Roman history this week during our drama workshop. We explored how the Roman Empire began and grew, as well as how it collapsed. We were able to share our sticky knowledge from our History lessons with our visitor. In Art, we have explored creating portraits using cubism related to our theme of equality and diversity.
In Year 5 Science, the children have been learning about solubility and how different materials dissolve in water. They enjoyed testing a variety of substances to see which ones were soluble. The class carefully observed and recorded their results, discovering that not everything dissolves in water! It was a fun, hands-on way to learn about changes and mixtures.
Year 6 have had a very interesting week this week. They completed their end of Key Stage assessments and have done so incredibly well; we are all so very proud of them. The hard work hasn't stopped for them though, as they have had a lovely visit from PC Rowan. The children have been able to discuss the transition towards Secondary school. Great Job Year 6.
The DEC have enjoyed den building this week during social skills and playtimes. The DEC have been enjoyed learning outside where possible as it's now coming up to summer we are going to be taking as much learning outside as possible. We have been enjoying lunch together outside too. Please can children put on suncream before coming to school and bring some in if necessary. Well done to the year 6's for completing their sats last week!!!!

A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...
Mr. Palmer's Strategy of the Week!
Do you find your child struggles to regulate in the heat and this can often lead to frustrations? Do they forget to drink and this further leads to frustrations and becoming overheated?
Try using a water bottle with specific marks and specific times on it. This will help some children to understand how much they need to drink. Something like this may help:
Got a question or a concern about SEND? Book to get a 15 minute slot with Mr Palmer to discuss any concerns and strategies that may help! Just scan the QR code on the poster to book your slot.

Healthy Snacks!
A reminder about break-time snacks.
To support the health and wellbeing of all our pupils, we ask that children bring only healthy snacks to school for break times. This helps us to promote a positive and healthy eating environment for everyone.
Examples of healthy snacks include:
Fresh fruit (e.g., apples, bananas, grapes, berries)
Vegetable sticks (e.g., carrots, cucumber, peppers)
Yogurt
Rice cakes
Small portion of cheese
Homemade popcorn (no added sugar)
We appreciate your support in reinforcing healthy eating habits. Your cooperation ensures that break times contribute positively to our children's energy levels and overall wellbeing.
As we are now in the summer term, we are looking for enthusiastic parents and carers to join the Friends of Delce Academy and help make a positive impact on our school community.
Being part of this group is a fantastic way to support school events, fundraising initiatives and create memorable experiences for our children. Whether you can offer a little time or a lot, every contribution makes a difference!
We also welcome parent helpers to assist with activities such as school trips, special events and classroom support. If you’re interested in getting involved, please speak to a member of staff or contact the school office.

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
