Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of this incredibly busy half term, I want to take a moment to express how immensely proud I am of our wonderful Year 6 pupils. They approached their SATS with determination, maturity and a fantastic attitude. You have all shone brightly and your hard work has not gone unnoticed!

A huge thank you to our incredible staff, whose unwavering dedication and support have guided the children every step of the way. And to our parents and carers—thank you for your continued partnership and support from home.

I wish all of our families a wonderful, restful and well-deserved half-term break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the final stretch of the school year!

Reading Canon

Our pupils are given a powerful voice in what they read

We are giving Delce’s pupils the chance to choose the reading books that we will use in our curriculum.

As part of the National Year of Reading - a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people discover the joy of reading - this initiative will strengthen our children’s love of reading.

On 5 May, we introduced the project to our pupils in assembly and each year group has now received copies of twelve carefully chosen, year-group appropriate books (you can see the full list here).

On 22 June, pupils will be asked to vote for their favourites. The vote count across all of Inspire Partnership’s ten schools will result in the top six books for each year group being placed in our reading curriculum (we also call this our ‘reading canon’).

As Melissa Carpenter, Deputy Chief Executive of Inspire Partnership, said, “The impact of discovering a book you love at an early age is huge. By giving pupils the opportunity to choose what they read, we are putting them at the heart of their learning. This sense of ownership drives engagement, builds confidence and helps children develop a lifelong love of reading.”

Please do talk about this with your child to help them articulate what they like or don’t like about any of the books on their year group’s long list.

Diversity Day at Delce

Celebrating us at Delce

Diversity Day is a special celebration that teaches children that everyone is unique and different. It encourages kids to learn about respect and celebrate different cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. The day focuses on building kindness, empathy and making sure everyone feels welcome in their community.

In assembly we celebrated a wonderful mix of cultures and backgrounds that make our school so special. From learning new languages to discovering amazing facts about each other, our children and staff showed what community is all about.

We are bursting with pride—especially for the wonderful children who stood up and supported Mrs. Cross in assembly. Thank you for helping us celebrate our differences!

Our Learning

Year 3

Wow! What an exciting time we had. We looked at our Cannon Books. We rated our findings on the best and why. We then came back together and discussed using our oracy skills to encourage others to read them or books from the same author.

Year 4

Year 4 took part in a Roman workshop provided by The Guildhall Museum. This helped us further embed our history learning about the Roman invasion on Britain. We had the chance to see, wear and use replica weapons and armoury. We were also fortunate enough to see genuine Roman artifacts which were nearly 2000 years old. The children were very inquisive and asked many questions!

Year 5

In this science lesson, students tested the solubility of different materials by mixing salt, coffee, and an effervescent tablet with water. They predicted how each substance would react, observed the mixing process, and recorded whether the materials dissolved to form a solution or created a reversible change.

Art - Inspired by graphic designer Noma Bar, children have been exporing the concept of negative space to create dual-imagery artwork. They brilliantly applied this to their English text, Too Much Trouble, designing illustrations where empty space reveals deeper, hidden deatils of character relationships and different themes.

Year 6

Following their amazing efforts during the SATs week, Year 6 have been looking at the life a well-known influencer, James Donaldson, also known as Mr Beast. The children have enjoyed delving deep into the background of his life and where he came from. They have then turned their research into some fantastic biography. The children have been learning about all the charity work he does and have been truly inspired by his fantastic work.

DEC

Well done to the year 6's for their amazing effort in their SATs and an amazing effort from the rest of the DEC who were resilient and changed spaces and adults to facilitate the SATs. A great team effort and we hope DEC children enjoying their reward. Jackson Class have enjoyed taking part in Roman workshops this week to consildate our learning this term. Have a great half term and we look forward to term 6 when we start our DEC transitions.

Are you finding the upcoming half-term break more stressful than relaxing?

Maintain predictability by creating a simplified visual timetable for the week.

Keep anchors: Keep wake-up times and meals at the same time as school days.
Use countdowns: Use a calendar to visually count down to when school starts again.
Schedule downtime: Balance high-energy outings with dedicated "low-sensory" recovery days at home.

Involve your child in the planning using symbols or photos. Knowing what comes next reduces anxiety, helping the whole family navigate the break with fewer meltdowns and more moments of connection.
