Respect Collaboration Kindness Perseverance Honesty Responsibility
Dear Parents and Carers
This week the children have shown exceptional commitment to their learning, embracing our focus on respect as a core value this half term. In classrooms and assemblies, we’ve been exploring how respect influences our interactions, promoting a culture of kindness and consideration. Everyone is making the effort to embed these principles into our daily lives.
We have also been ensuring that routines are not only followed at Delce but are optimised to support a positive learning environment. It’s clear that a consistent approach contributes to a more focused and productive atmosphere.
Emotional management during break and lunch times has also been a priority, our goal is to help all children handle their emotions constructively, fostering a supportive environment where they feel confident and capable. We endeavour to make break and lunch times safe, happy and fun for all children. Additionally, we are focused on helping children build essential personal characteristics such as responsibility and respect both in school and outside. Thank you for your ongoing support in reinforcing these values and routines at home. Together, we are building a strong foundation for growth and success.
Warm regards,
Miss Stevens
At Delce We Do Belong!
Our Core Value this term: RESPECT
To promote our core value of RESPECT, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.
This week’s recommendation is: All Are Welcome. Teaching children about respect for self and peers is so important. This collection will be sure to grab attention and open up the conversation to ways respect can be shown and demonstrated.
Get ready to embark on a journey through the learning achievements and activities of the week. From captivating classroom discoveries to inspiring moments of creativity, there's so much to admire and enjoy.
Let's dive in together and revel in the joy of learning!
This week we have continued to look at plastic pollution. We have explored subheadings, by having a range of sentences that we then identified the theme of to then work in our 4's to create the subheading.
Wright class recently had the exciting opportunity to speak with an expert from Guild Hall Museum about fossils and flint from the Stone Age. This fascinating session allowed them to explore ancient artifacts up close and learn about the tools and resources used by early humans. The interactive discussion deepened their understanding of history, sparking curiosity and engaging their imaginations as they connected their learning to the Stone Age.
This week in Dyson class, we have continued exploring the three states of matter. We completed an experiment to investigate different melting points of different materials.
In Sharman Class this week, we have enjoyed earning about World War II. We found out about the Allies and Axis countries, where they were and why they fought on each side of the war.
Earhart class have enjoyed learning about states of matter, exploring how states of matter change by changing the temperature by freezing and melting them.
This week Rhodes class have worked very hard with their reading this week. They have been making sure to deepen their understanding of the text through their active listening and discussions.
This week in English the children have explored figurative language features. They learnt about similes, metaphors and personification. In order to develop their writing skills further, they have practised writing direct and indirect speech. Dickens class wanted to write about their friends in class, we had so much fun listening to what people were saying and then writing them down. Well done everyone!
In Goulding's class this week, we have been exploring how to add conjunctions to make sentences more cohesive and fluid. Afterward, we wrote a diary entry based on our core text Running Wild. This allowed us to practice using conjunctions in our writing, as we reflected on the events and emotions that the main character may feel during his adventure in the jungle.
Darwin class explored using decimals in maths this week. They applied their knowledge of place value when multiplying. We also explored tens, hundreds and thousands. I am proud of their efforts, especially taking care with their presentation and layout in maths. Well done!
Brunel Class have investigated how light appears to travel. We identified how humans are able to see. The children were able to demonstrate that when the light comes from the source, the rays bounce off an object and into our eyes. The children were then able to apply their knowledge and explain what happens through a diagram.
Curie have been working hard with their writing, linked to their core text, 'Max and the Millions.' They wrote a letter to the King of the Kingdom to ask to become a member of his Kingdom.
Jackson class have enjoyed consolidating place value by using the dienns to find the value of a number. The children all have their times table rockstar logins if they want to practice their times tables at home. They can also use their purple mash logins at home to practice any Maths topics they enjoy.

We’re thrilled to turn the page and share the launch of Delce’s marvellous new reading adventure with you!
We’re inviting all our pupils to dive into a book and read at home 100 times for the chance to adopt their very own WALTER bear! Once they’ve earned their cuddly companion, they’ll sign a special pledge, promising to nurture their love for reading.
As your child’s reading journey unfolds, they’ll be celebrated at every chapter! At 25, 50, and 75 reads, they’ll receive a certificate in our celebration assemblies, recognising their fantastic progress as they inch closer to the 100-read goal.
WALTER stands for We All Love To Enjoy Reading. This initiative is all about spreading the magic of stories far and wide. Each time your child completes their school assigned book, we ask that a grown-up at home signs their reading record. Each signature takes them one step closer to the next milestone!
We hope this new reading adventure will bring just as much joy at home as it does in school. Let’s crack open the books and celebrate the love of reading together!

DELCE SAYS NO TO BULLYING!
At Delce, we stand united against bullying in all its forms. Bullying hurts and harms, and it has no place in our school community. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, respected, and supported.
Together, we will foster a culture of kindness, empathy, and inclusivity, where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.
STOP red boxes allow the children to place their worries and concerns in them. They are located across the school and checked daily by Mr. Minlah and Mr. Bower, and any concerns posted are responded to promptly by our dedicated pastoral team.

Family and Community Information
Hey Delce family, we’ve got some exciting news to share with you!
Parentkind – a charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative. To support our PTA, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, choose our school, shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com.
Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024 – every time you shop with Asda using your Asda Rewards app, Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to your chosen Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts-in to support our Primary school, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.
The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage!
It’s as easy as 1,2,3
1. Download the Asda Rewards app, register and opt-in to Cashpot for Schools
2. Choose our Primary School – either searching by name or postcode (ME20 7JU)
3. Shop instore across Asda and George, or online at Asda.com and start filling your Cashpot as you shop
Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most. Our aim is to use the donations to provide additional enrichment opportunities and experiences for all children within the school.
Remember, anyone can sign up – so start spreading the news and raising funds for our school. Speak to Grandparents, friends, family anyone you see.
This initiative is on top of the existing Asda Rewards benefits you get as a shopper – so you won’t lose out on any of your own earnings or Cashpot, so everyone is a winner!

Thank you for your continued support!
Pick-up and drop-off times are busy outside schools. This can cause an increased safety risk to both children and parents.
You can legally park opposite yellow zigzags. However, this can make crossing the road more dangerous, especially for children. Some schools have yellow zigzags on both sides of the road for this reason.
When picking up or dropping off children at schools, you should do the following:
Allow yourself plenty of time as the area is likely to be busy.
Do not park on yellow zigzag lines and avoid parking opposite them.
If you decide to park further away, please be considerate of local residents and avoid blocking driveways or access ways.
For further information on parking and road safety please visit Kent Police Road Safety

International Day of Peace 21 September
This year the UN have chosen the theme of 'cultivating a culture of peace' to celebrate and mark the 25th anniversary of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.
Why is this important you may ask? Well, simply put, we live in a world full of conflict and we need to change this. Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace. This means we can all play our part, whether it's something small or big, either way creating a peaceful world is our aim for the future. At Delce, we believe that every community deserves unity and peace. So why not get involved? Click on the heading for more information. You can discuss the concept of peace with your children, create posters or even write a poem about peace.
We'd love to see what you get up to! Please share with your class teachers or alternatively come and find Mr Thomas and Mrs Begum to share your thoughts.

Mr Palmer's Top Tip this week!
When you ask your child "what did you do at school?" do they answer: "dunno" or "stuff"?
Get them to create a daily journal where they could write or draw and then when you are eating dinner discuss what they have drawn. This will help the child to recall as well as you to find out what they have been up to.
If relevant staff are not available and your concern is urgent you can contact:
Medway Children’s Services directly on 01634 334466 and / or,
The Police on 101 (non-emergency) or,
999 (emergency) depending on the level of concern
If you have a safeguarding concern about a member of staff, please inform the Headteacher, Miss Stevens.
Wishing these children a Happy Birthday for birthdays over the coming week!

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
For more details visit our website.
