Respect Collaboration Kindness Perseverance Honesty Responsibility
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have returned to school with great energy and have settled in well after the break.
It has already been super busy at Delce Academy and there's much to celebrate! The year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their residential trip, it was a fantastic opportunity for them to build independence and create lasting memories. Our recent Father's Day event was a great success and we thank everyone who joined us. Please keep an eye on upcoming dates, including Sports Day and our Global Outcomes presentations, which the children are working hard to prepare for this half term. As the weather gets warmer, we kindly remind parents and carers to ensure children come to school with sun hats and water bottles.
This half term, our core value is Responsibility, we are encouraging pupils to take ownership of their actions and to be responsible for themselves and those around them. We would love to hear stories about how children have shown responsibility!
Our Core Value this term: Responsibility
This term at school, we're excited to be focusing on the important value of Responsibility! Responsibility means understanding that our choices and actions have an impact and that we can be trusted to do what's right.
We'll be exploring how we can be responsible for our belongings, our learning and our behaviour, as well as how being responsible helps us to be great friends and citizens.
At home, you could help your child explore responsibility by giving them small chores, like tidying their toys or helping to set the table, or by encouraging them to take care of a pet or plant. Even simple things like remembering to pack their own school bag or choosing their own clothes can build a sense of responsibility!
In Year 3, we have explored the fascinating world of light. We investigated how light reflects off surfaces, and how it interacts with different types of objects: opaque, transparent, and translucent. We also delved into the creation and characteristics of shadows.
In Year 4, we have had a fantastic start to this term! We started our new core text, 'A Fish In A Tree' where we have started looking at the meaning of invisible disabilities. We have also been reflecting on our learning journey in Year 4, what we have learnt, what we have enjoyed and our strengths.
Year 5 have been learning to use the coding programme to create their own quiz. The children looked at planning a quiz, learning to set conditions and then went on to debug any faults. They had lots of fun and supported each other with the learning.
Year 6 have been enjoying their end of Primary School Trips. Last week they enjoyed a day at Chessington World of Adventures. This week, some children went to Kingswood Activity Centre in Ashford, while some stayed at school and did some orienteering activities.
Year 6's enjoyed Chessington World of Adventures last week and are enjoying Kingswood Activity Center this week. Jackson class have written a smoothie recipe for a panda and made the smoothie today. Some DEC children enjoyed taking part in FUDGE celebrations this week.

SEND
A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...
Mr. Palmer's Strategy of the Week!
Does your child find it hard to meet the demands of everyday life and find ways to avoid this? This is completely normal and may not have any SEND needs. However in a child with autism, this may be a form of Pathological Demand Avoidance.
One way to help is to use PANDA: Pick your battles, Anxiety Management, Negotiation and collaboration, Disguise and Manage Demands and Adapt. Some more information can be see below or this website can be really helpful: https://www.pdasociety.org.uk/
Got a question or a concern about SEND? Book to get a 15 minute slot with Mr Palmer to discuss any concerns and strategies that may help! Just scan the QR code on the poster to book your slot.
SEND Parent and Carer Forum!
Our next SEND Coffee Morning we will be holding a parent and carer forum. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and views on how we can best support your children. Please do come along for a ☕, a 🍪 and a chat!
Wishing the following children a Happy Birthday for the next two weeks!

Healthy Snacks!
A reminder about break-time snacks.
To support the health and wellbeing of all our pupils, we ask that children bring only healthy snacks to school for break times. This helps us to promote a positive and healthy eating environment for everyone.
Examples of healthy snacks include:
Fresh fruit (e.g., apples, bananas, grapes, berries)
Vegetable sticks (e.g., carrots, cucumber, peppers)
Yogurt
Rice cakes
Small portion of cheese
Homemade popcorn (no added sugar)
We appreciate your support in reinforcing healthy eating habits. Your cooperation ensures that break times contribute positively to our children's energy levels and overall wellbeing.
As we are now in the summer term, we are looking for enthusiastic parents and carers to join the Friends of Delce Academy and help make a positive impact on our school community.
Being part of this group is a fantastic way to support school events, fundraising initiatives and create memorable experiences for our children. Whether you can offer a little time or a lot, every contribution makes a difference!
We also welcome parent helpers to assist with activities such as school trips, special events and classroom support. If you’re interested in getting involved, please speak to a member of staff or contact the school office.
Your support is greatly appreciated!

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
