What a start to the term. The children have have immersed themselves into the core text, the Crayons Quit and through about how they are feeling. But also Science we have started to look at magnets and identifying magnetic fields.
This week, Year 4 have immersed themselves in our new core text. They used their collaboration and problem solving skills to solve a trail of clues which eventually revealed the title of our new core text, Race To The Frozen North.
This week, Year 5 'travelled' to Greece for their art project, 'The White Walls of Santorini.' They looked at the famous white, block-shaped houses found in the Nikonova’s art. Using white chalk on coloured paper and black chalk on white paper, Year 5's learned how to use light and shadow to make their drawings look 3D.
The children in year 6 have been looking at the variable obervable characteristics of animals. We discussed what observable characteristics might be and even classified ourselves using our hair colour, eye colour and gender. The children were then able to discuss different characteristics of animals in order to classify them, just how scientists would! Good job year 6!
Happy New year from the DEC team!
DEC welcome back Miss Patterson after her maternity leave :) Adams class has recalled facts that they knew about Greek gods, goddesses and monsters. They explored some of their characteristics working together. The children explored strength relating to Hercules, Cyclops they looked at a picture for 5 seconds and had to draw what they could recall. Jackson class have been learning about Matthew Henson and how he was treated unfairly due to the colour of his skin.

A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...
Mr. Palmer's Strategy of the Week!
Do you find as the holidays start your child becomes more overwhelmed and finds the time more challenging?
Have a couple of days after school finishes as down time to allow them to rest and recover from the fatigue of the school term. This will help them to then build resilience again for the ovewhelming nature of Christmas
SAFER INTERNET Day-Tuesday 9th February 2026
Everyone’s talking about AI, and with many children and young people hearing about and using AI online, it’s important they have the skills and confidence to make safe choices when they are using smart technology.
This Safer Internet Day we are exploring the impact of AI on all of our lives, looking at how AI can be used for good, and giving advice and guidance that empowers people to use AI safely and responsibly.
Understand what AI is and how it can be used
Artificial intelligence technology is used by lots of people every day. AI suggests videos on streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, gives directions on map apps, can help translate different languages and can even create music and poems. Talk to your friends and family to see what they know about AI and where they have used it.
Enjoy going online together and talk regularly about your family’s online lives
The internet is amazing and can help us all to access information and entertainment. Spend time online with your child to understand how they are using technology and talk together about the good and the bad parts of being online. Talk about your own experiences and find other opportunities to get the conversation started, like stories in the news. Make sure your child knows they can talk to you about anything that they see or experience online.
Wishing the following children a Happy Birthday for those who have their birthday over the next two weeks!
