Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderfully restful and refreshing half-term break. It’s fantastic to welcome all our pupils back into school, looking bright and ready for the second half of the autumn term! It has been amazing seeing them immerse themselves right into their learning.
We're excited to start this second half of the autumn term, which is always a particularly busy and rewarding time with lots of learning and preparation for the festive season ahead.
We'd like to commend you for your collaboration so far towards the learning and progress of our children. Your continued support is invaluable to us.
Warmest regards,
Miss North

Our Core Value this term: Collaboration
This half term we are focusing on our core value - COLLABORATION
What does collaboration mean?
Collaboration is about working together effectively to achieve a common goal. It involves sharing ideas, offering support and respecting different viewpoints to create something better than what one person could do alone.
At school, collaboration can be used in many ways:
working with others in class to research, plan and present, making sure everyone contributes.
helping a friend understand a difficult concept or asking for clarification
cooperating with teammates, following plan and supporting each other toward a win or a shared objective.
listening actively to others, building upon their ideas and respectfully disagreeing when necessary
Mental health is about our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It influences how we think, feel and act. Good mental health doesn't mean being happy all the time; it means having the ability to cope with life's stresses and maintain relationships effectively.
This week, your children had a really engaging assembly focusing on mental health and tools for emotional regulation. We strongly encourage you to talk to your child about what they learned. Asking them about their key takeaways is a fantastic way to open up an important conversation at home and support their growing understanding of their own feelings. You can use some of these sentences to start a conversation.
"How did you feel when you woke up this morning? Has your mood changed throughout the day?"
"What's one feeling that was really strong for you today, good or bad? Can you tell me what caused it?"
"Did the assembly talk about 'big' feelings and 'small' feelings? What's the difference?"
With the days getting darker earlier, we want to ensure every child is highly visible near roads.
Please look out for the reflective chain or stickers we sent home with your child this week. Encourage them to attach these items to their school bags or coats right away. Using these simple tools makes a big difference in helping drivers see them, especially during the darker morning and afternoon commutes.
This week, our Junior Leadership Team had an important and productive meeting with Chartwells, our school meal providers.
The JLT members acted as true representatives for the whole school, diligently reviewing the current lunch menu and putting forward several thoughtful suggestions and ideas. Chartwells greatly appreciated their input and we look forward to seeing how these excellent student voices influence future menu planning!
The JLT has also been busy acting as brilliant role models across the school. They have been active in classrooms, checking that our learning environments are tidy and well-organised. During break times, they have shown incredible responsibility by supporting other students on the playground and ensuring everyone is keeping each other safe.
A huge well done to all JLT members for demonstrating such fantastic leadership and commitment to our school community!
This week, Year 3 had an awesome start to the term. In English the sea creatures dumped rubbish in the room. They then, expected us to eat plastic cheese sandwhich. We learnt that our actions as humans has an effect on the pollution in the ocean, especially plastics. Afterwards, we made a Caesar salad to introduce us to the main food groups in science and healthy eating.
This week, Year 4 had a visit from Medway Rotary Club to launch their Rotary Club Shoe box Appeal. We learnt about the needs and conditions in certain areas and countries due to war, poverty, displacement and climate crisis and how we can help. Linking to our global theme of Peace and Conflict, the children asked questions linking to their past and current learning and discussed how this project shows the values of kindness and collaboration.
Year 5's core text for this term is 'Running Wild' by Michael Morphugo. The children have been completing learning tasks relating to the text including making a tsunami in a bottle and writing a diary entry as if they were escaping a tsunami.
Year 6 have come back to school with a bang! They have shown great perseverance, determination and attitude to complete their first set of assessments. They have proved that when they put their minds to it, they are able to achieve anything they want! We are all so proud of how they have tackled their assessments this week! Keep it up Year 6!
DEC have started the term reestablishing rules and routines, reconnecting with friends and adults. We enjoyed sharing our experiences of Halloween and Fireworks nights. We have started our learning on the digestive system and are looking forward to our VR experience to learn more.

A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...
Mr. Palmer's Strategy of the Week!
Do you find your child finds Mondays or Tuesdays particularly difficult?
Try using a routine on Sunday morning and Sunday evening similar to that you will use during the week. This helps children to begin the week with a positive note and start with the routine they are expecting.
We love seeing so many of our students choosing active travel like bikes and scooters for the journey to and from school! As the weather changes, we want to share two important reminders to ensure the safety of everyone during our busy drop-off and pick-up times.
We know electric scooters (e-scooters) are becoming increasingly popular. However, their speed and quiet nature can pose a risk in the crowded areas immediately surrounding the school. Please be mindful of the students and parents on the road. Public Road Use: Privately owned electric scooters are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements and footpaths in the UK. Modelling Safety: We ask parents and older siblings who use e-scooters to model safety and caution when approaching the school area. Be mindful that children dart quickly, and high speeds are dangerous near pedestrians.
The Mandatory Rule:
All wheeled transport—including bikes, manual kick scooters and electric scooters—must be walked once you cross the school boundary/gate and placed in the designated allocated area in the school.
Thank you for your cooperation in reinforcing these rules. By slowing down and being aware in these busy areas, we keep our entire community safer!
Wishing the following children a Happy Birthday for those who have their birthday over the next two weeks!

Healthy Snacks!
A reminder about break-time snacks.
To support the health and wellbeing of all our pupils, we ask that children bring only healthy snacks to school for break times. This helps us to promote a positive and healthy eating environment for everyone.
Examples of healthy snacks include:
Fresh fruit (e.g., apples, bananas, grapes, berries)
Vegetable sticks (e.g., carrots, cucumber, peppers)
Yogurt
Rice cakes
Small portion of cheese
Homemade popcorn (no added sugar)
We appreciate your support in reinforcing healthy eating habits. Your cooperation ensures that break times contribute positively to our children's energy levels and overall wellbeing.
As we are now in the autumn term, we are looking for enthusiastic parents and carers to join the Friends of Delce Academy and help make a positive impact on our school community.
Being part of this group is a fantastic way to support school events, fundraising initiatives and create memorable experiences for our children. Whether you can offer a little time or a lot, every contribution makes a difference!
We also welcome parent helpers to assist with activities such as school trips, special events and classroom support. If you’re interested in getting involved, please speak to a member of staff or contact the school office.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
We would love to shout out to each and everyone of you that brought in items for our community foodbank, what an amazing haul! This food goes to help so many of our familes within our Delce community, we are so very grateful! Thank you so much!

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
