Respect Collaboration Kindness Perseverance Honesty Responsibility
Dear Delce Family,
The last few weeks have certainly been busy! We had lots of fun today dressing up for NSPCC Number Day and solving tricky maths problems. It was great to learn how numbers can help us in real life and raise money for a good cause. We'll announce the total amount raised very soon, so keep an eye out for the update.
We also spent time thinking about our feelings during Mental Health Week. We learned some helpful ways to stay calm and happy, like talking to our friends and teachers, and remembering to be kind to ourselves. It was a week full of learning and laughter!
Our children were absolutely thrilled to participate in a virtual workshop with the author Tola Okogwu. It was a truly inspiring experience, and we're sure it sparked a love of reading and writing in many of our children.
Some of our budding engineers have also embarked on a fantastic project: building a go-kart! They're already hard at work, and we can't wait to see their creation on the track and cheer them on in the race.
Finally, a reminder to sign up for Parents' Evening next week. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate your child's learning journey with you and discuss their progress. We look forward to seeing you there!
Kind regards,
Mr Harris and the Delce Team
Our Core Value this term: Kindness
This term, we will be focusing on the important value of kindness.
Kindness is about being thoughtful and caring towards others. It's about:
Helping others: Lending a hand, offering support, and being there for our friends.
Using kind words: Saying "please" and "thank you," offering compliments, and encouraging others.
Showing empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of others, and being compassionate.
Being inclusive: Welcoming everyone and making sure everyone feels included and valued.
We will be exploring kindness through:
Class discussions and activities: We'll talk about what kindness means, share stories, and share ways to show kindness.
Kindness challenges: We'll have fun challenges throughout the term to encourage acts of kindness, such as "Random Acts of Kindness".
Circle time: We'll use circle time to share our feelings, practice active listening, and build a strong and supportive classroom community.
We encourage you to discuss kindness with your child at home. Talk about how you show kindness to others in your daily lives. Let's work together to create a kind and compassionate school environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Delce Academy enjoyed a creative and interactive storytelling project with award-winning children’s author Tọlá Okogwu this week, we had lots of fun coming up with ideas and characters! Well done from Miss Condon and all the teachers!
Students aged 5 to 14, who have been freshly inspired to explore their own writing journey can submit their writing to us until Friday 14 February. One thousand entries will receive individual feedback from Amazon and a selection will be published in our National Storytelling Week Anthology. All submitting schools will be entered into book giveaways!
This fantastic annual event is a joyful celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world; they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy; they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills.
Creating stories together can be fun and relaxing. It also helps develop language skills. Children have a go at creating their own story using the story starter below. Children can write or draw their ideas. Children can decide which door they're opening and what’s behind it: is there a tiny alien behind your kitchen door? A dancing elephant in your bedroom? Or a mysterious box on your doorstep? Let your imagination go wild!

This week, Delce has been actively participating in Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. The children were engaged in a thought-provoking assembly led by Mr. Thomas, where they explored different ways to grow as individuals and understand themselves better.
Linking to the movie Inside Out, the children created their own “Personality Islands,” expressing their passions and what makes them unique. It was wonderful to see their creativity and self-reflection in action.
We are incredibly proud of how our children have grown this year, supporting one another and embracing their individuality. Well done, everyone!
Congratulations to the children who received merits last week, including whole class merits (left) and this week (right).
Well done to these children for getting a merit! They have worked incredibly hard to show Delce values such as respect, perseverance and kindness. Their dedication and positive attitude are an inspiration to us all.
Keep up the fantastic work!
This week we have celebrated and supported Children's Mental Health Week with the support of Place2Be. The children have considered how their emotions look after exploring Inside Out, created their own Personality Islands and thought about the greenhouse of growth.
Year 4 have explored direct and indirect speech this week. We used hot seating to interview Matthew Henson after he had reached the North Pole. During our English lessons, we then converted his answers into direct and indirect speech.
This week, the children dived into the world of storytelling to celebrate National Storytelling Week. They participated in an engaging live session with author Tola Okogwu, who led a fantastic virtual storytelling workshop. A big well done to all of Year 5 for their enthusiasm and for creating some brilliant ideas for characters and settings!
Year 6 have been able to dive into the skill of persuasion. The children have looked at how to use the technique of persuasion to get the Mamba Rebel Tribe, from our core text Gorilla Dawn, to follow the Black Mamba, and save the DRC from illegal miners. Some of the outcomes have been amazing, a gargantuan well done to all of Year 6 for their perseverance and determination to be they can be!
Jackson class were curious and worked collaboratively during a magnet workshop. Adams class have enjoyed the start of their new life skills lessons and worked collaboratively to discuss themes for a go-kart build.

Complaints procedures
At Delce, we aim to meet our statutory obligations when responding to complaints from our parents. Parents should follow our Complaints Policy that explains the procedures that should be followed.
Stage 1: Informal
The complainant should raise the complaint as soon as possible with the relevant member of staff or the headteacher as appropriate, either in person or by letter, telephone or email. If the complainant is unclear who to contact or how to contact them, they should contact the school office.
If the complaint is not resolved informally, it will be escalated to a Stage 2 formal complaint. The school will maintain a log of informal complaints and review this on a termly basis.
Stage 2: Formal
If the issue cannot be resolved through informal action the complainant should inform the headteacher in writing. This letter will be acknowledged within three working days. Formal complaints must be reported the local governing body. The local governing body must then be kept informed about progress and outcomes. This letter should provide details such as relevant dates, times, and the names of witnesses of events, alongside copies of any relevant documents. The complainant should also state what they feel would resolve the complaint.
