This virtual field trip is designed to expose students to farming locally in the Chihuahuan Desert. Students will learn the benefits of using local resources, understand the importance of sustainable farming and will be able to describe some of the impacts of food production on the environment.

After watching the video, you will need to visit you nearest grocery store to complete this activity. This activity will challenge you to understand where food comes from as well as the environmental, social, and economic impacts of importing food.
Now that you have a better understanding of where your food comes from, think about what kinds of food you actually eat. Now, they say "You are what you eat", so draw a picture of yourself looking like what you eat. The example shows a man as a hamburger.
What would you look like if your resembled what you ate?
Draw a second picture of what you would look like if you ate locally-grown food from a local farm like Growing with Sara Farm.
Are they vastly different?
Share with your classmates and discuss the health and environmental implications of not eating locally-grown food.
