Environmental problems in our area

1. One of the problems in our area is we are in a plain and all the pollution from the metropolitan area like Barcelona arrives here, and we have very hard levels of pollution - especially ozone during the summer months.

2.The water pollution is very dirty and a times the water in the river dries up. Consequently now there are not many fish at the area. Sometimes, pollution is caused by strong ecological imbalances

3.One of the environmental problems we have is that a lot of people don’t throw the garbage to the correct bins.

4.In our area there are more pigs than people and a lot of farms do not recycle the slurry and this are filtred in underground waters and consequantly all the fountains have more than the level of nirats allowed for the OMS, in some case tripling.

Things we do to help the environment

1. To lower the polution levels we can go walking to the places, and don’t use a lot the car. It is better use public the transport than a private transport like a car or motorbike.

2.We have campaigns to recycle more. This campaign was very good for the recycling in Manlleu. Manlleu is the town where we recycle more of Catalonia without using the door to door system.

3. We have a deixalleria in Manlleu like the things they cannot go on the bin go to that place and recycle.

4.In the medi ambiental week of this year in Manlleu the schools and the town hall plant about 600 trees near the river “Ter”. One year ago in the medi ambiental week we cut not auto

• 4 Abdul: We have a garbage collecting plant in Manlleu for the things they can not go on the bin, we put to that place and recycle. Every Wednesday they pick up the furniture or other things so as not to leave them in the middle of the street and in the garbage we set plates to know where each thing goes. [deixalleria]

The environment at school

Our school is a “Green school” this means that we recycle more and we do some activities of this tematic.

In our schools we have a lot of bins for recycle. In the classes we have a paper bin and a waste bin. In the playground we have some waste bins and one or two organic bins. At the entrance we have a special bin for the batteries.

In the medioambiental week we did an activity for recycle more. And the people from 1st of ESO plant some trees. A part of this week in the school there are some activities related with the recycle and the energetic savings.

In the lab they don’t put de waste in the sink, because they put in a bottle and then they carry to the garbage collecting.

Every day in the second break groups of 4 or 5 people clean the playground because a lot of people throw papers to the floor.
