Hello ILCS Families! My name is Mrs. Ferris and I have been working as a History teacher at ILCS for the past 10 years. Prior to that, I taught history at the high school level for 11 years. I also have 2 boys that have both gone through Inland Leaders from Kinder through 8th grade, so I know this school well.
After teaching history for the past 21 years, I’ve learned that it is filled with triumphs and struggles, the strive for power and the willingness to help the common good. It is the story of the world we live in and the people we live with. In 7th grade, I will be teaching your children about the rise and fall of the world’s largest empires during the Middle Ages. While in 8th grade, we will be focusing on the foundation of our nation and critical democratic principles developed in early American history.
We will also be studying historical perspectives and beliefs in order to uncover the stories of the past. Through this, I will challenge your students to think through these perspectives in order to better understand the peoples and cultures of this world and how these discoveries can still be applied today.
