What is ANZAC Day and what do the letters ANZAC stand for? When, and why, do we celebrate it? Make a poster or use another way to share what you have discovered and show us in our Zoom Meeting or post on Seesaw.
Why do people wear red poppies? Make a poppy. Read here:Why we wear Poppies and here’s some easy poppies to make Poppy Crafts If you don’t have the items to make them, see if you can make it from something else or draw and colour one and show us all.
Make ANZAC biscuits. Take a photo and post to your Seesaw.
Make a wreath with your unit to place at the cenotaph at the ANZAC Day service. Show us a photo of what you have made. If you don’t have items to make a wreath, draw and colour one in as a poster. We can’t place it on the memorial so put it in your window on ANZAC day.
Find a poem about ANZAC Day and present it to your class in an interesting way. It could be a video of you reading, or a photo of your work.
Visit your local cenotaph and read the names remembered there. Which wars did they fight in? Look at the online cenotaph at Auckland Museum. See if you can look up an ancestor of yours that fought in a war. If you don’t have any relatives that you know of, look up your family name and find out about someone with the same name.Online Cenotaph NZ
Find Gallipoli on a map. Why is it important for us to remember what happened there? Find out at least five key things that were important at Gallipoli.
Make a Peace Dove with a message of peace. Here’s an easy one you can make. How to make a Peace Dove It doesn’t have to be out of white paper although that is traditional. Any paper you have at home is fine in this situation.
Find out about family life during wartime rationing. Talk with your family or friends about how difficult it might have been. Look here Parents: You may need to read this with your child to help with vocabulary and understanding.
Listen to some wartime music. What contribution did those singers make during wartime? Here’s a selection of music to listen to which is quite different to today’s music.

Listen to the words and what they are singing about and see if you can figure out why singers would have been important to the soldiers away at war, and to the people at home they left behind.
