More than 200 scientists with Italian affiliation (INAF or Italian Universities) are interested in the Rubin-LSST project.
Many of them are working to provide in-kind contributions within the Italian in-kind Program.
The Italian community has been heavily involved in the preparatory activities of the Rubin-LSST project, in particular giving feedback on the Survey Cadence through the submission of white papers in 2018 and cadence notes in 2021. These also led to scientific publications (see Scientific Production).
Italian scientists have organized or contributed to organize several Meetings related to Rubin-LSST (see Conferences & Meetings).
Moreover, Italian scientists cover leadership roles within the Rubin-LSST project.
Rosaria (Sara) Bonito from INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo has been elected co-chair of the `"Transient and Variable Stars" Science Collaboration (SC) and she is now INAF representative in the Board of Directors of LSST Discovery Alliance. She also coordinates the JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) working group and is co-chair of the DP0 task force of the TVS SC and chair of the "Non Degenerate Eruptive Variables". Together with Laura Inno from the Napoli University, she is member of the Rubin-LSST DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) Council.
Massimo Dall'Ora from INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Capodimonte (Napoli) coordinates the task force on "Crowded Field Photometry" of the TVS SC.
Vincenzo Petrecca from the Napoli University is member of the Rubin-LSST Users Committee and co-chair of the DP0 task force of the TVS SC.
Sabina Ustamujic from INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo is co-chair of the TVS subgroup "Data Visualization and Characterization"
