I am an astronomer at INAF – Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri, specialising in the study of our Galaxy and nearby companions. As an observational astronomer, I primarily use spectroscopy to analyse the physical and chemical properties of stars and nebulae. My ultimate goal is to understand the chemical evolution of the Milky Way and constrain its formation and evolution processes, establishing it as a benchmark for spiral galaxies.

Since 2019, I have shared my passion for Galactic stellar populations by teaching the Milky Way component of the Physics of Galaxies course at the Università di Firenze. Since 2011, I have been involved in major observational projects, starting with the Gaia-ESO Survey. Currently, I contribute to the preparation of upcoming spectroscopic surveys, including WEAVE@WHT (La Palma, Spain) and 4MOST@VST (Paranal, Chile), where I lead the Science Policy Board, as a member of the 4SYS community survey.

Beyond observations, I participate in the design of next-generation instruments, including MAVIS@VLT as a Core Science Team member, and the proposed Wide-Field Spectroscopic Telescope (WST) co-leading the instrument Survey Plan, and ultra-high-resolution spectrograph HRMOS for the VLT, where I serve as Project Scientist.

Additionally, I am deeply involved in the Ariel space mission, dedicated to studying exoplanet atmospheres, bringing my expertise as a stellar spectroscopist to characterise their host stars.
