Program outline
We plan to cover all the following topics with one or two opening review talks for each, to set the scene, leaving time for many contributed talks
Overview on LSB science: state of the art of LSB science from the observational side, based on past/ongoing deep imaging/spectroscopic surveys
LSB features in the galaxies’ outskirts: morphology, structure, and stellar populations of the stellar streams, tidal tails, shells, and diffuse envelopes
The ICL and its role in the assembly history of groups and clusters: ICL detection and estimation; fraction of ICL and its relationship with host environment; ICL evolution; discrete tracers of ICL (i.e., GCs, PNe)
On the nature of LSB galaxies: automated detection and classification of LSB galaxies; structure, kinematics, stellar population, DM content, and GCs in dwarfs and ultra-diffuse galaxies
Overview of the theoretical predictions on mass assembly: build-up of the stellar halos and ICL, formation, and DM content of LSB galaxies
LSB optimised Data reduction and analysis for optical images: estimating the sky background; PSF modeling; subtracting galactic cirrus; automatic detection/classification with AI methods, etc.
Ongoing radio surveys with SKA-precursors: Radio counterparts of the LSB features in the galaxies’ outskirts, the gaseous counterparts of the LSB galaxies
Upcoming (ground-based and space) facilities for surveys: review of the LSB research with Rubin-LSST and Euclid surveys; future perspectives with Roman and ARRAKHIS; follow-up with the extremely large telescopes (ELT@ESO)
