The Sardinia Radio Telescope is a 64-meter single-dish radio telescope with state-of-the-art technological capabilities. It can be operated in either single dish or Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) mode. Its strengths include a large collecting area (a steerable parabolic dish with 64 meters of diameter) combined with state-of-the-art technology, allowing for a high efficiency up to 115 GHz.
In 2019, the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) has been funded, by the National Operational Program (PON), with 18.700.000 Euro to upgrade the SRT to allow observations at high radio frequencies. The radio astronomy group at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory is involved, with leadership roles and technical expertize, in the following three Work Packages (WP):
WP1 - Multi-beam cryogenic receiver in W Band for SRT
WP4 - Simultaneous microwave compact Triple-Band receiving system for the three Italian radio telescopes
WP6 - Backends for SRT
