Hi Grade 2 Parents

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Tommy Moore today!!!

Enclosed is a packet that should keep everyone busy for the next 3 weeks. Please don't feel like you have to do everything all at one time. When and if we return to school, please be sure to return all complete and incomplete work. Hopefully, you are also using the online resources I have include such as the Scholastic Learn at Home website and Splash Math which is now called Splash Learn. If your student has forgotten their log in code and/or needs the class code please dojo me for that information.

Here is a list/instructions for this packet:

  1. "Receiving Holy Communion" Please read this book together with your student. Discuss. It needs to be returned when school resumes.

  2. Math Packet - includes 3 pages of Number Patterns and Math Lessons 111 to 124 (minus Lessons 115 and 120 - we'll do these lessons when school resumes.) Do both sides please.

  3. Social Studies - Interactive Notebook (these are cut and paste pages that go into the Good Shepherd notebook) At the bottom of the cut and paste pages, it tells you when to use them. For example, begin by reading Unit 5 Lesson 1; then find the notebook page(s) that reads Grade 2 Unit 5/Grade 2 Unit 5.1. Do one lesson at a time. Also attached are Social Studies workbook pages. At the bottom of those pages it will tell you what textbook pages to read before completing the workbook page.

  4. If your student is finished reading "Johnny Appleseed" please have them complete these workbook pages. Just follow the directions on each page. Be sure your student takes the AR quiz so that I can record their grade. Also included are the trifold and workbook pages for "Going West" which is in the purple Text Collection your student brought home. After completion they are to take the AR quiz for this story as well.

  5. I have included some reading skill sheets so your student can review classifying, analogies, cause and effect, and making inferences.

  6. Beginning with "Saving Food" and ending at "God is With You" your student will have read the entire first book of the Bible. These pages also cover essential reading comprehension skills.

  7. Finally, Mrs. Shows has included a Science Unit "No Bones About It..." looks fun!

Parents, if you have creative suggestions, online resources or ideas please share with everyone. And, don't forget that Mr. Whitsit has some PE activities and Mrs. Elliott has art activities.

I will be teaching Shurley Grammar online. As of now, I'm not sure which system I will be using (Zoom, Facebook Messenger, Go to Meeting, or other)? When we get together Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. we will discuss how I will take attendance, how you can share any work your student has completed and what is the most convenient time for me to teach Shurley Grammar (mornings? afternoons? evenings? I plan on teaching for about 20 to 30 minutes Monday through Friday. After each lesson is complete we can use this time as well for answering and asking questions. If you need more help, PLEASE feel free to Dojo me anytime or call me at 309-337-0820.
