Hello Dana Families

Originally a Northern California Bay Area native, I made San Diego my permanent home when I attended UCSD. I majored in Psychology and minored in Science, as well as completing three years of an electrical engineering major.  I am proud to be a teacher and grateful to work with the most dedicated professionals and fun people who are also crazy enough to do this for a living.

In 2004 I began my teaching career and have been with San Diego Unified ever since. I am credentialed in  Science Single Subject, K-6 Multiple Subjects, Industrial and Technical Education, and I earned a Master's in Education. I taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades, then I moved up to middle school.  I discovered my niche was with this age range, and I taught 6-8th graders over the past 13 years.  Now I am back at Dana again to teach 5th and 6th-grade science!

The bottom line is that I love to teach science and technology. These are subjects through which I view the world with passion, wonder, and clarity.  My goal is to feed the students' curiosity and teach them to explore through inquiry. Hands on, minds on.  I want to get them to make connections, create solutions, and to try and take risks.  Lack of failure, to some extent in our activities, is a lack of genuine learning opportunities.

I couldn't be here doing all this without the love and support of my wife, Maria. She is a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) at Sharp Memorial Hospital and treats patients in the ED.    Our boys are Miles (24) who graduated year from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is an architect in San Diego, and Garrett (19) who is a sophomore at USC with a major in theater & acting. Finally, our new, sweet kittens (1 yr), Mango and Pina Colada (Pico), round out the family unit.
