This week we will read the first five chapters of The Lightning Thief.
1. Create the Contents
Before reading look over the table of contents (T.O.C.), pick one chapter and write a journal entry about what you think that chapter will be about (use what you learned about ancient Greek mythology).

All sixth graders will participate in this cross-curricular study :) We will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:00 (a link will be sent to your emails). On Tuesdays we will go over the work we will be doing for the week and on Fridays we will play games and do challenges based on what we are learning.

Once you have finished writing your narrative, you will begin the editing process. Read your story to yourself. if you have earbuds, you can use Read Write to read it to you.
Does everything make sense? Can you add or change anything? Go to “tools” and check spelling or use Grammarly.
When you look at your narrative, does it look like many shorter paragraphs (as opposed to one big block of writing? Did you punctuate your dialogue correctly?

Today you will be doing your final self-edit. Use Read &Write (purple puzzle piece) to read your essay to you. While your essay is being read to you make sure your writing sounds correct. Add punctuation if needed. Change sentences if they are repeated or sound wrong.

If you believe you are finished with all parts of your essay. Do a complete self-edit. Check for the following:
Things to look for while editing:
Please make sure the essay is color-coded (including the introduction and conclusion) and spaced 1.5
- Is the thesis statement stated in the introduction and restated in the conclusion?
- Is the text evidence set up? Are the sources cited? Are the facts your stating correct?
- Is their sufficient commentary (at least two sentences per text evidence)?
- Is a counterargument presented; is there a rebuttal with commentary?
- Does everything make sense?
- Read for punctuation when needed (but Grammarly should help). REMEMBER, WE SPEAK IN SENTENCES.
