Center for Planktonic Collections

The Center for Planktonic Collections, inaugurated in March 2013, is unique in Europe and conserves nearly 30,000 formal plankton samples collected from around the world.

The jars follow an internal management protocol, they are inventoried and identified by a unique generic barcode for traceability of origin (sampling metadata), loans (input/output forms) and analysis history.

Open to the scientific community, the Collections can also be consulted via the EMBRC-France website with an online ordering system.

The samples of the observation long term series and Tara series are also digitized by the Quantitative Imaging Platform of Villefranche sur Mer, the contents of the jars are then directly accessible via the Ecotaxa web application.
