It is important for you to understand Academic Integrity...
Submitting assignments on time
Treating lecturers and tutors with respect
Correctly referencing where you get your information from in the assignments you create
Not getting someone else to do your assignment for you
If you selected answers 3 and 4, you are correct!
Academic misconduct means conduct by which a student seeks to gain an unfair academic advantage in a unit or course. It may be intentional or unintentional.
Types of academic misconduct include but are not limited to:
Plagiarising or assisting someone else to commit plagiarism;
Purchasing an assignment and submitting it as your own work;
Cheating, acting dishonestly or attempting to gain an unfair advantage in an examination or any other assessment task;
Cheating with someone else or assisting someone else to cheat, plagiarising or engaging in other types of academic misconduct;
Submitting an assessment task previously produced and assessed for another unit or for a previous semester.
Failing to acknowledge work primarily produced by a collaborator;
Making improper use of copyright material
IMC takes academic integrity very seriously.
You should understand academic misconduct to prevent involvement in this behaviour. Students who intentionally engage in academic misconduct such as plagiarism or cheating will face academic penalties, including reduction of marks, a fail grade, exclusion or expulsion.
We hope all students maintain honesty and integrity in their studies at IMC.
So what do you need to do?
To avoid academic misconduct, IMC strongly recommends that students attend academic and learning support workshops to improve their academic skills. You will also need to complete the IMC Academic Integrity Module (AIM) via Moodle.
The Academic Integrity Module (AIM) is a compulsory online module for all IMC students that introduces the basics of ethical academic practice and IMC’s values and expectations of correct academic conduct.
The Academic Integrity Module will help you to:
Understand what it means to work with Academic Integrity
Develop skills and understanding of the rules and customs that form the basis of academic work
Avoid cheating, plagiarism and other dishonest activities that can lead to failure or expulsion from the institute
Become familiar with IMC’s Student Academic Integrity Policy
This unit must be completed by all students enrolled at IMC. It is strongly recommended that you complete this module by week 6 of your first semester (before submission of your first assignment).
You can find details about your responsibilities regarding Academic Integrity in the Student Handbook and via the Student Academic Integrity Policy.
