In previous years, my supervisor, Prof. John Arnould, has observed, through the use of an animal-borne camera, an individual of Australian Fur Seal spending most of its dive time at the bottom, carefully scanning the water column. From that moment on, a few questions came along: what was the individual doing? Why was it at the bottom? Does it have something to do with sharks? Or with preys? The aim of this professional practice was to find out answers to these tricky questions.
