The Australian fur seal (hereafter referred to as AUFS) inhabits the Bass Strait and represents the most abundant marine mammal species in south-eastern Australia (Kirkwood & Anrnould, 2011). AUFS is the largest fur seals species (Arnould & Kirkwood, 2008), representing the highest resident biomass of high-trophic level predators in the area (Kirkwood & Anrnould, 2011).
Adult females reach a mean of 76 kg (Arnould & Kirkwood, 2008).
Adult males can reach up to 270 kg (Arnould & Kirkwood, 2008).
