During my Professional Practice I used Archipelago’s behaviour protocol and BORIS software to analyse videos from 2017 and 2018. Before starting analysing, behaviour categories, states and events should be defined.
States are long-lasting behaviours (as swimming for example);
Events are shorter behaviours that can occur at the same time as a state (for example a leap);
Categories are a combination of a state and event to make a more specific behavioural record (for example travelling).
Behaviour studies can give valuable insights on many aspects of cetacean’s populations dynamics.
Maria Cajal (other IMBRSea student doing the same Professional Practice topic) focused her research topic on behaviour data. Mainly, I analysed the videos using BORIS software which increased the number of videos analysed that can then be used in future researches.
