Consider this your invitation to the first ILSR Community Broadband Film Fest!
Slated for March 27 from 4 to 4:45pm ET, the livestream event will show the world premiere of “Building Fiberhoods in Holland” – a mini eight minute documentary on how the city of Holland, Michigan came to build a municipal broadband utility to supercharge the city’s economy.
The short film showcases key community leaders telling the story of the why and how Holland decided to establish its own municipal broadband utility and where they are now building out a citywide fiber network that offers its residents fast, affordable, world-class Internet service.
Hosted by ILSR’s Community Broadband Networks team and the American Association for Public Broadband (AAPB), the event will kick-off with brief virtual red carpet introductions of some of the film’s stars, including Holland Mayor Nathan Bocks. After the screening, viewers will be able to engage the star guests in a bit of Q&A.
“Yes, community broadband has its challenges, but it can also be fun. It’s in that spirit we want to highlight short films that demonstrate how solving connectivity challenges at the local level can really empower communities and remind all of us that we can shape our own digital futures,” said ILSR Community Broadband Director Christopher Mitchell, who will also serve as the emcee for the film fest.
