The ISTA Executive Board are elected by the membership and work to guide the direction of the association. The Presidential chain serves a 4 year term consisting of President-Elect, President, and Past-President. The Vice President and Secretary serve a 2 year term.

The ISTA Regional Directors represent 7 educational regions of Illinois representing all counties, grouped by Regional Offices of Education. Two Regional Directors are elected by membership in each respective region to serve a 2 year term.
ISTA employees four part-time staff members and one professional learning coordinator. Their roles help to ensure the success of ISTA.
