WPA/FAP Allocation
WPA stands for Works Progress Administration. The WPA hired people during the Great Depression (1929-1933). FAP stands for Federal Art Project. The FAP hired artists to create artwork. That artwork was allocated, or given, to museums and other public places where people could enjoy it. Learn more about the ISM WPA collection here.
What is gouache? Gouache (gwäsh) is a kind of watercolor paint. Pigments (coloring) are mixed in water with a binder to hold the paint together. It isn't as transparent (see through) as watercolor.
