Conclusion

We believe that our design strikes the perfect balance between cost and functionality. We narrowed down are potential user base and used our research to help tailor our product to the end user. We gathered many key insights from both the user's and designer's perspectives as we did this. We ended up creating a product that allowed people with no thumb and people with weakened thumbs to have an easy and accessible way to open pull tab cans. The product is still effective for people with perfectly functioning thumbs but the handle of the design is specifically catered to people who need to use their other four fingers as the main pulling force. The product's design is very simple and easy to use, and allows our users to use their four non-thumb fingers and hand to apply the leverage to open the can. The cost of the product was less than the examples already out on the market, because our product is mass producible and uses a cheap 3D printing process. The material cost per unit, what the ultimate unit cost tends towards, is $4.14 when printed with ABS using FDM.
