ENGLISH LANGUAGE VIDEO CHALLENGE

The SEJAHTERA-IVPC 1.0 for the English language video challenge aims to provide opportunities for the students who have achieved CEFR levels B1+ and B2 which are equivalent to MUET Band 3 to 4.5 to practise and sharpen their English language skills through activities outside the classroom. Apart from the lessons learned in class, these activities planned will act as a reinforcement to promote more practice in Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking skills. Consequently, it helps to increase the level of motivation among students. It is also hoped that the activities would offer diversified learning opportunities for students with different learning styles to participate with other counterparts.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this activity are to:

  1. Encourage students to use English inside and outside the classrooms.

  2. Instil good values among the students.

  3. Encourage the students to take part in events with other counterparts.

RULES AND GUIDELINES OF VIDEO SUBMISSION

  1. There is no entry fee.

  2. Participation is opened to all students who have achieved CEFR levels B1+ and B2 which are equivalent to MUET Band 3 to 4.5. Participants are required to attach a copy of their MUET results (for Malaysian) or IELTS/TOEFL (for international) if any.

  3. Participants should work in teams of not more than four and are required to select a team leader, who is responsible for the registration and entry submission.

  4. Video must be presented in English language.

  5. The length of the video should not exceed 5 minutes.

  6. Video must not include any sensitive issues, racist, obscene, hateful, slanderous or defamatory content.

  7. Dress decently and speak respectfully in your videos.

  8. Plagiarism or copied work from websites or some videos which you have submitted previously will be disqualified.

  9. Visual aids, such as slides, poster, a unique background, sound/music which strongly support the video are encouraged.

  10. Each university must choose a maximum of only 3 video entries to be submitted for the intervarsity competition.

  11. Please record your video in horizontal (landscape) mode if you use your phone.

  12. For video submission, kindly upload the video on YouTube (public) and copy the YouTube Link/URL in the entry form.

  13. Entry forms must be completed with correct personal particulars AND attachment of a copy of students’ matric card.

  14. Completed video entries must be submitted through the entry forms via website.

  15. The DEADLINE for submission is at 5pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

  16. The judges’ decision is final and will be based on the judging rubric.

  17. The competition winners will be announced during the Final Showcase.

  18. All winners will receive cash prizes and digital certificates.

  19. Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.

  20. Entrants also grant the organiser the right to use, reproduce or display the videos for promotional and educational purposes without further compensation or notification to the entrants.

TASK

    1. Participants need to produce a creative short English language video (5 minutes) in a TALK SHOW format. Based on ONE of the selected podcasts, identify the main ideas, include relevant supporting details and reproduce/improvise the designated roles. Below are the themes of the podcasts:

You will have to click and listen to the audio attached above.

    1. Participants are advised to use the right equipment such as a good microphone and suitable applications to record the video.

    2. Each participating university must choose a maximum of only 3 video entries to be submitted for the intervarsity competition.

    3. For submission, all entrants must upload the videos on YouTube (public) and copy the YouTube URL/link into the entry forms

    4. Completed video entries must be submitted through the entry forms (via website) starting from June 6, 2022.

    5. The DEADLINE for submission is at 5pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Any late submission will not be entertained.
