WHAT IS SEJAHTERA-INTERVARSITY PROFICIENCY (IVPC) 1.0 ?
Centre for languages and pre-university academic development (CELPAD) offers courses in English, Arabic and Bahasa Melayu as well as Tilawah al-Quran to undergraduate and postgraduate students at all levels of proficiency. The role of CELPAD is to ensure that all IIUM students fulfill the minimum language requirement in order to undertake credit bearing Kulliyyah courses in English and Arabic. In addition, Bahasa Melayu, Tilawah, Mandarin are also offered either as University required courses or as elective course
Learning other languages opens up the opportunity for being part of a community and, learning more about the world around us. In tertiary education, many students are now learning more than one language as this will encourage them to respect for others. In CELPAD many of our students are taking up different languages as elective courses or to study them in order to foster an understanding of the interrelation of language.
As different languages are offered, it is the duty of each division to promote English, Arabic, Bahasa Melayu, Tilawah and Mandarin by organizing its own programs such as Language Enhancement Program (LEP) to their students at the centre. However, this semester’s activities will be expanded to other local universities in Malaysia which involved a pre-recorded video competition submission according to the respective themes.
The SEJAHTERA-INTERVARSITY PROFICEINCY COMPETITION 1.0 (IVPC 1.0) is the event to encourage students to use the languages inside and outside classrooms. A pre-recorded video according to each theme is to be submitted. The content of the submitted video must include:
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs) component – SDG 3, 4 or 11 OR
Values: Family Relationship/ Ethics in Social Media.
Our theme today highlights 'UNITY IN DIVERSE PROFICEINCIES' which is to display the harmonious and how unity have been integrated in our language center despite being from various cultures and speaking different languages.
