About Workshop
The homogenization is a mathematical study to analyse the behaviour of multi-scale medium. There is a vast application of multi-scale study in engineering and medical sciences, such as composite materials, metamaterials, thin structure, and porous mediums, to name a few. Indeed, homogenization can be viewed as a process of understanding a heterogeneous media by a homogeneous media. Mathematically, homogenization deals with the study of asymptotic analysis of the solutions of PDEs by obtaining the equation satisfied by the limit. This limit equation will characterize the bulk or overall behaviour of the material, which does not consist of microscopic heterogeneities and can be solved or computed. This workshop focuses on analytical methods to understand homogenization procedures from a general perspective with a wide range of applications in science and engineering. The topics covered by the speakers are meant to bring together researchers to collaborate on the areas of analysis of multi-scale phenomena.
IIT Ropar
Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India in 2008 to enhance the quality of technical education in the country.
IIT Ropar is located at Rupnagar (formerly known as Ropar) town of the district Rupnagar. Rupnagar town is the headquarters of the district Rupnagar and is located 42 km. from Chandigarh, the state capital. It is connected by road on National Highway NH-21. The Delhi-Ambala-Una railway line passes through Rupnagar and provides rail connectivity. The nearest airport is at Chandigarh at a distance of about 50 km.
About the Department
The Department of Mathematics was established in 2009 to investigate interdisciplinary research and experts high quality education in the emerging areas of mathematical sciences. Faculty members of the departments are active in several research areas of pure and applied mathematics, probability and statistics and theoretical; computer sciences. The department offers PhD programmes science 2010, MSc program from 2015 and BTech in Mathematics and Computing from 2019. The department attracts students and faculty members from other institutes fron short-term research projects through summer-internship programs. The department is also looking for postdoctoral fellows for their independent research at IIT Ropar.
