Catalysis and Sustainable Energy Research Lab

Catalysis and Sustainable Energy research group at IIT Ropar is emphasizing towards green energy production by novel catalytic materials using sustainable resources i.e. waste material like agricultural wastes, plastic wastes etc. The research work in CSERL is mainly focused on the preparation, characterization, and evaluation of catalysts for application in biomass conversion processes to produce alternative fuels and value added chemicals. Our research is also focused on upgradation of bio-oil to get fuel grade hydrocarbons and platform chemicals. We also encourage our students to carry out detailed reactor design, fabrication, and study the reaction mechanisms and kinetic modeling. In addition, we also work on removal of dyes from industrial waste water and utilization of activated char (bio-char) for various environmental applications, e.g. pollutants removal, carbon sequestration and soil amelioration etc.
