Meaningful relationships significantly contribute to good mental health. Yet, cognitive, affective, personality, and contextual factors together can disrupt relationship satisfaction at times. Such disruptions might be temporary or permanent in nature. My work particularly focuses on the effect of emotions (positive and negative) in relationships and how better regulation of these emotions can lead to optimal relationship satisfaction.
My doctoral work explores 'hate' in interpersonal relationships, not limited only to spouse, intimate partner or parental relations but also close friends or colleagues. I am exploring how hate is developed and maintained in close relations, how it manifests, and the mechanisms through which hate can be reduced to prevent the destruction of relationships.
