Emotion Regulation and Behaviour Modification Research Lab
Emotion Regulation and Behaviour Modification Research Lab
Emotions are integral to everyday life. They shape how we think, make decisions, interact with others, and respond to challenges. Emotion regulation refers to the ways in which individuals influence the emotions they experience, when they experience them, and how they express them. Importantly, emotion regulation is not simply about suppressing or eliminating emotions; rather, it involves developing flexible and context-sensitive ways of responding to emotional experiences to support adaptive functioning and well-being. How do we learn to regulate our emotions? And how do our emotional experiences shape what we think and do? These questions lie at the intersection of emotion, cognition, and behaviour. The Emotion Regulation and Behaviour Modification Research Lab (ERBMRL) at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar investigates the psychological and behavioural processes underlying these connections. We seek to understand how emotions influence behaviour, how behavioural patterns shape emotional experiences, and how these processes can be modified to promote adaptive functioning and well-being. Established in 2023 by Dr. Parwinder Singh, the lab brings together researchers interested in understanding emotion regulation across diverse psychological and behavioural contexts. Our work spans basic, applied, experimental, and intervention research, allowing us to examine both the underlying mechanisms of emotion and behaviour and ways of translating this knowledge into meaningful change.
