About Deeksha

Joined in the Summer of '24, Deeksha is pursuing her Ph.D. in Psychology in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences under the expert supervision of Dr. Parwinder Singh. Her research interests lie in Emotion Regulation, Suicide Prevention, Movies as Interventions, and Applied Positive Psychology. 

Her research focuses on entrapment, a proximal risk factor for suicidal ideation, characterized by the perception of being trapped from which there is no perceived possible escape. She aims to understand the factors, including difficulties in emotion regulation, that shape experiences of entrapment in young adults in their everyday lives, using ecological momentary assessment. Building on these findings, she aims to develop an intervention to help reduce perceptions of entrapment. Knowledge of these factors will help prevent negative outcomes, such as suicidal ideation among young adults, by targeting the malleable factors shaping the perceptions of entrapment. These findings will have implications for the mental health practitioners working on primary suicidal intervention programs for community young adults.

Apart from skimming through research papers, Deeksha finds her flow in photography, cinema, painting, mandala-making, and reading poetry.
