1st International workshop on
BITES: Blockchain, IoT, and Sustainable Energy for a Greener Future
Philadelphia, May 6-9, 2024
In conjunction with the 24th IEEE/ACM international Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Internet Computing (CCGRID 2024)
Call for Paper
The urgent need to transition towards sustainable energy sources is underscored by the escalating concerns over climate change and depleting fossil fuel reserves. Sustainable energy, in this context, signifies energy sources and practices that are not only environmentally friendly but also economically viable and socially responsible. It's about striking a balance that meets our current energy needs without depleting finite natural resources, harming the environment, or compromising future generations' access to affordable and clean energy. As traditional energy grids struggle to accommodate intermittent renewable sources, blockchain technology offers a decentralized and transparent platform for managing energy transactions. Blockchain can fundamentally transform the way energy is generated, traded, and consumed. By enabling peer-to-peer transactions, it provides a mechanism for decentralized energy exchanges, thus reducing dependency on centralized grids and empowering local communities to manage their energy resources. Coupled with the proliferation of IoT devices, which can monitor, control, and communicate energy data in real time, this presents a unique opportunity to create a resilient and efficient energy ecosystem. However, to date, there is a dearth of comprehensive research that explores the seamless integration of these technologies to unlock their full potential.
Through this workshop, we aim to provide a platform to investigate the potential synergies and applications of blockchain technology, sustainable energy, and IoT in creating efficient and eco-friendly solutions for energy management and consumption. By doing so, we aim to bridge the gap between theoretical promise and practical application, propelling the transition towards a sustainable and decentralized energy ecosystem. Moreover, the economic, environmental, and societal benefits of such integration are substantial. The scope of this “BITES: Blockchain, IoT and Sustainable Energy for a Greener Future” workshop focuses on topics, but not limited to:
