Brief Bio: Dr. Poundarik’s key interests lie in designing and developing biomaterial systems, processing technologies and implantable medical devices with clinical applications orthopedics, sports medicine and diabetic wound healing. Dr. Poundarik has presented his graduate and post-doctoral research at numerous international conferences and has been a recipient of the Young Investigator Award by the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). His work has been published in journals like the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and Scientific Reports (Nature), in addition to popular science media.
Prior to joining IIT Ropar, Dr. Poundarik has gained invaluable administrative experience in setting up a medical dressings manufacturing unit, ground up. Additionally, an early stage medical devices start-up founded by him is currently engaged in the development and translation of indigenous orthobiologics. He has two filed US patents and has strong ongoing research associations with the various departments at Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai, PGIMER Chandigarh and MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Bengaluru.
As an Asst. Prof., with joint appointment with Center for Biomedical Engineering and Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at IIT Ropar, Dr. Poundarik is working on setting up a one-of-its-kind, multi-material biomanufacturing facility to indigenously develop and manufacture implantable medical devices. It is his vision that the lab that will serve as a hotbed of numerous cost-effective, scalable innovations that can effectively be put into the healthcare system through a highly translational approach to R&D that will involve extensive clinical interactions and current understanding of policy, economic and IP landscape of the fields.
