GReEn Lab
(Green technology - Catalysis and Reaction Engineering)
Our research group work in the domain of catalysis and reaction engineering. We focus on the process development and process intensification for a variety of application, e.g., fine and specialty chemicals, flavors & fragrances (F&F), biochemicals, hydrogen economy, APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients).
The Indian chemical manufacturing sector is growing with a significant rate to accommodate the increasing export demand. The market valuation for fine and specialty chemicals is expected to reach ~70 billion by year 2025 (Indian Specialty Chemical Industry- 2019) with a CAGR of ~12%. In recent times, the manufacturing industries across the globe are developing environmentally sustainable processes of production. Strict government regulations and environmental awareness have motivated the research fraternity to search for green and sustainable processes. The main focus of our research group is to develop a techno-economic green technology for the production of industrially important chemicals e.g., fine and specialty chemicals. An holistic approach to understand the reaction behavior in laboratory, indigenously develop the experimentally validated reaction kinetic model and exploration of continuous production followed by scale up have been adapted in the GReEn lab.
