"Save Water: Nano to Mega"
Professor Pradip Kumar Tewari, currently working as Jal Jeevan Mission Chair Professor in Department of Chemical Engineering (Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur), is a renowned expert in water, energy, environment and sustainability. His field of interest involves membrane technology, advanced water treatment, nano-composite membrane and total water solution. He is co-chair of the Jodhpur Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster for demonstrating green hydrogen value chain with several innovative features utilizing the local strength areas. He was founder Head of Department of Chemical Engineering IIT Jodhpur from July 2019-August 2024.
Professor Tewari joined the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in 1977 and became Distinguished Scientist in 2012 and Associate Director of Chemical Engineering Group in 2014. He was consultant to the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India on ‘Water Issues’. He was Professor in Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) for more than a decade.
Professor Tewari has been consultant and advisor on water related issues to several government bodies and organisations such as Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) etc. Professor Tewari received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 1987. He was Chairman of International Nuclear Desalination Advisory Group and Technical Working Group of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 2005-2015.
Dr Tewari is Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and Fellow of Indian Chemical Society. He was Vice President of Asia Pacific Desalination Association (APDA) and President of Indian Desalination Association (InDA). Professor Tewari has more than 175 research publications in peer reviewed journals and proceedings. He has two patents to his credit. He has authored two books (i) ‘Nano-composite Membrane Technology' published by CRC Press Taylor & Francis Group (USA); and (ii) ‘Advanced Water Technologies’ by CRC Press Taylor and Francis Group (USA). He is a member of the editorial board of several peer reviewed journals. He is recipient of Life Time Achievement Award from Indian Desalination Association, an Affiliate of International Desalination Association and several other awards/ felicitations as well as Group Achievement Awards.
