I am a Professor of Economics at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, where I lead the Innovation Studies Group. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from IIT Kanpur.
My academic work is situated at the intersection of industrial economics, economics of innovation, and international economics. The focus is on understanding the dynamics of innovation systems, the role of intellectual property rights, and the policy frameworks that shape technological development and economic transformation, particularly in the context of developing economies. A significant strand of the research investigates how patent regimes influence firm-level innovation, foriegn direct invetsment, technology transfer, and industrial competitiveness. The scholarly contributions from our research group span issues such as working of patents, patent valuation, determinants of R&D, patent survival, strategic patenting, innovation and market power, high-technology exports, the role of foreign firms in domestic innovation systems, zombie firms and superstar firms.
My academic journey has been driven by a commitment to producing research that informs both policy and practice, especially in the context of developing economies.
