The Centre for Narmada River Basin Management (cNARMADA), initiated by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aims to study the Condition Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP) for the Narmada River basin. The study is conducted jointly by IIT Indore and IIT Gandhinagar (consortium institutes), with progress monitored by cGanga at IIT Kanpur. The main objective is to develop an integrated river basin management plan for restoring and conserving the wholesomeness of the river. This involves improving its ecological health, which has been significantly affected by competing human demands for river resources across the basin. The project entails assessing the river's existing conditions and preparing a roadmap for comprehensive rejuvenation and conservation of its ecosystems by thoroughly analyzing anthropogenic impacts.
Vision of the Project
Our vision at the Centre for Narmada River Basin Management Studies is to restore the wholesomeness and ecological health of the Narmada River Basin while ensuring sustainable management of its resources. We are committed to preserving the natural ecosystems of the river and its tributaries by maintaining continuous and unpolluted water flows, protecting biodiversity, and supporting the socio-economic needs of the region through sustainable development practices.
