We are pleased to announce that the conference "SKA Cosmic Dawn and Epoch of Reionization (CD/EoR) Science Team Meeting 2026" will take place on 7-11 September, 2026 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) is poised to revolutionize our understanding of the first billion years of our Universe. This transformative period in our Universe's history witnessed the Cosmic Dawn of the very first stars, galaxies, and black holes. The light from these astrophysical objects spread out in complex patterns, eventually ionizing and heating virtually every atom in existence. This final phase transition of the Universe, the Epoch of Reionization, spans roughly half of the observable cosmic volume and has unmatched potential for studying both astrophysics and cosmology.

Unfortunately, the EoR and CD have historically been starved of observations. This is all set to change with the SKA-Low telescope, currently under construction in Australia. The SKA will measure the 21 cm signal, originating from the spin-flip transition of the ground state of neutral hydrogen. It has the potential to map the fluctuations of neutral hydrogen spanning the first half of our Universe’s history, allowing us to measure cosmological parameters and study the imprints left by the very first galaxies, which are too faint to be observed directly with current telescopes.
Unlocking this revolutionary potential will be an enormous challenge. The 2026 meeting of the EoR/CD Science Team will bring together members of the SKA community, providing a shared forum to discuss the current challenges facing precursor instruments and what we need to do to pave the way for a first detection. We plan to have overview talks, contributed talks, and discussion sessions focused on the SKA Science Verification campaign, which is scheduled to begin in 2027.
